REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

MAY 7, 2001

 

Minutes of a Regular Meeting of Council held on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers City Hall.

Present: Mayor Phil De Vos, Councillors Arnelien, DeRyk, Fromm, Goulden, Wegner and Wyatt.

Staff Members Present: Wayne Jensen, Laurie-Anne Rusnak, Lonnie Kaal, Jerry Cheshuk, Bill Hawkins, Terri Eger, Scott Mack, and Jim Ennis.

Recording: Gloria Signarowski.

A quorum being present Mayor Phil De Vos in the Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Mayor DeVos opened the meeting by updating the public regarding the City Water supply and asked the Assistant Director of Public Works and Engineering, Jerry Cheshuk, to give a brief presentation on how the City of Yorkton’s water is treated and checked.

A memorandum dated April 23, 2001 from Mayor Phil De Vos was circulated for the consideration of Council.

That the Council of the City of Yorkton appoint Mr. Wayne Cantelo, Mr. Howie Fehrenbach and Mr. Urban Kiernan to the Board of Revision for 2001 with remuneration to be set at $200.00 per day for the Chairman and $150.00 per day for each of the remaining Committee Members, and that Kim Durdin, Assessment Clerk be appointed as the Recording Secretary.

That Council accept Recommendation No. 01-027 as contained in the Municipal Planning Commission Meeting Minutes of May 2, 2001 that Administration proceed with the necessary advertising for the discretionary use of a home operated daycare facility at 59 Bull Crescent.

CORRESPONDENCE

Yorkton Housing Corporation – Tax Phase-In

A letter dated May 3, 2001 from the Manager of the Yorkton Housing Corporation regarding the implementation of property taxes was circulated for the consideration of Council.

That the letter dated May 3, 2001 from the Yorkton Housing Corporation regarding the tax phase-in request be referred to the tax policy discussion on the Committee of the Whole Council Agenda.

Discussion was held on the purchase of Jubilee Crescent and what the ramifications are if the City of Yorkton would take this street over.

That we accept Recommendation No. C00050-2001 as contained in the Committee of the Whole Council Meeting Minutes of May 7, 2001, that Council hold a Special Meeting of Council no later than August 30th, 2001 to initiate discussion on 2002 tax policy.
