REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 24, 2002
Minutes of a Regular Meeting of Council held on Monday, June 24, 2002 at 7:00
p.m. in Council Chambers City Hall.
Present: Mayor De Vos, Councillors Arnelien, DeRyk, Fromm, Goulden, Wegner
Staff Members Present: Wayne Jensen, Laurie-Anne Rusnak, Lonnie Kaal, Matt
Bernat, Jerry Cheshuk, Jim Ennis and Bill Hawkins. Recording: Gloria
A quorum being present Mayor De Vos in the Chair called the meeting to order
at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
That the Regular Council Meeting Agenda be approved with the addition of
Untidy and Unsightly premises at 353 Maple Avenue under Hearing of Petitions,
for this Meeting of Council.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Regular Council Meeting Minutes June 10, 2002
That the Regular Council Meeting Minutes of June 10, 2002 be approved as
Committee of the Whole Council Meeting Minutes June 10, 2002
That the Committee of the Whole Council Meeting Minutes of June 10, 2002 be
received and filed as presented.
HEARING OF PETITIONS
Hire a Student Week July 8 to 12, 2002
A letter dated June 14, 2002 from the Human Resource Center of Canada for
Students was circulated for the consideration of Council.
Melissa Shuya and Kathy Sharp were present in Council Chambers to speak to
That the Council of the City of Yorkton proclaim the week of July 8th
2002 as "Hire A Student Week" in the City of Yorkton and to
raise their flag on Monday, July 8th,
2002 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall Park.
Untidy and Unsightly Premises 353 Maple Avenue
An order to clean up the premises at 353 Maple Avenue, Yorkton was circulated
for the consideration of Council. There was no one present in Council Chambers
to speak to the order.
That the Council of the City of Yorkton provide a 10 day extension on the
untidy and unsightly premise order for 353 Maple Avenue and if the property is
not cleaned up within that time that Council authorize the City to clean up
the property at 353 Maple Avenue (Lots 19 & 20, Block 4, Plan Z1894) and
apply the cost to the taxes.
Assistant Director of Public Works & Engineering
Raw Water Well Line #8/9
A memorandum dated June 20, 2002 from the Assistant Director of Public Works
& Engineering regarding a raw water well line was circulated for the
consideration of Council.
That the Council of the City of Yorkton authorize Administration to proceed
with replacing approximately 1500 feet of water line from well #8/9 with the
funds coming from the Utility Operating Surplus (if available at year end) or
the Utility Capital Reserve Fund at an estimated cost of $75,000 to $80,000,
subject to weather conditions remaining dry.
Director of Finance Health Foundation Donation
A memorandum dated June 21, 2002 from the Director of Finance regarding an
untidy and unsightly premise at 157 Second Avenue South, along with pictures,
were circulated for the consideration of Council.
That the Council of the City of Yorkton undertake to secure the building
and eliminate the danger at 157 Second Avenue South, Lots 1 & 2, Block 2,
Plan Number 1884 under the authority of Section 125 of The Urban
Municipality Act, 1984 for safety reasons and to apply the costs
associated with same to the tax roll.
That this Regular Council Meeting move into a Committee of the Whole
Council Meeting at 7:16 p.m.
That we rise and report from the Committee of the Whole Council Meeting at
