MAY 26, 2003

 

Minutes of a Regular Meeting of Council held on Monday, May 26, 2003 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 7:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor De Vos, Councillors Arnelien, DeRyk, Goulden, Hill, Wegner and Wyatt.

Staff Members Present: Wayne Jensen, Laurie-Anne Rusnak, Dean Clark, Bill Hawkins, Lonnie Kaal, Gord Bulmer and Kelly Kaban. Recording: Gloria Signarowski.

A quorum being present Mayor Phil De Vos in the Chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Tourism Yorkton – Proclamation –

Tourism Awareness Week – June 1, to 7, 2003

A letter dated May 14, 2003 from the President of Tourism Yorkton was circulated for the consideration of Council.

Mr. Terry Wright was present in Council Chambers to speak to their request.

De Vos to proclaim the week of June 1 to 7, 2003 as "Tourism Awareness Week" in the City of Yorkton.

Bylaw No. 28/2003 – Lane Closure – Third Avenue/Collacott Street

There were no petitioners present in Council Chambers to speak for or against Bylaw No. 28/2003 authorizing the closing of all that portion of the lane shown on Plan X4119 lying to the east of a straight line joining the north west corner of Lot 9, Block 9, Plan 61Y05331 to the south west corner of Lot 1, Block 1, Plan X4119 and lying to the west of a straight line joining the north east corner of Lot 9, Block 1, Plan 61Y05331 to the south east corner of Lot 1, Block 1, Plan X4119.

Parkland Racing Association

Mr. Richard Markham, Vice-President of the Parkland Racing Association was present in Council Chambers and gave a presentation regarding information on what their organization is all about and requesting assistance in acquiring land for a race track. A discussion was held regarding safety issues.

Parkland Racing Association

A memorandum dated May 23, 2003 from the Manager of Building Inspections and Property along with a letter from the Parkland Racing Association Inc. were circulated for the consideration of Council.

That the Council of the City of Yorkton give Administration approval to continue discussions with the Parkland Racing Association for the purpose of finding a suitable location for a race track and reporting back to City Council.

City Manager – RCMP Cost Issues

A memorandum dated May 23, 2003 from the City Manager along with a report jointly written by City Managers and SUMA Officials were circulated for the consideration of Council.

That the Council of the City of Yorkton adopt the report from the City Managers and SUMA Officials on RCMP cost issues, and that Yorkton City Council endorse the proposed action to be taken.
