REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

May 29, 2006

Minutes of a Regular Meeting of Council held on Monday, May 29, 2006 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 5:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Phil De Vos, Councillors Arnelien, Goulden, Hill, Maloney, Schmidt and Wyatt.

Staff Members Present: David Putz, Laurie-Anne Rusnak, Lonnie Kaal, Fran Brimacombe and Cindy Alcorn. Recording: Gloria Signarowski.

A quorum being present Mayor Phil De Vos in the Chair called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillor Schmidt advised of the passing of Mrs. Colleen Bailey. Colleen was a past First Lady of the City of Yorkton and was recognized as an entrepreneur with Bailey’s Funeral Home/Memorial Gardens, and North Eastern Cable. She volunteered and contributed on the Canadian Cable Television Association, Sask Power, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Yorkton Arts Council, the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival and was involved with the formation of the Saskatchewan Organization of Arts Councils. Family and friends will cherish her memory and remember her as a model of courage, determination and grace.

Councillor Goulden was away in Windhoek Namibia Africa with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Canadian International Development Authority and brought greetings from their Mayor and Council. She attended a strategic planning session with their national association of local authorities.

Councillor Wyatt attended the Sacred Heart Graduation ceremony on Saturday night for the 2006 graduating class and extended greetings and congratulations on behalf of City Council.

Councillor Maloney presented a thank you card from the children at Columbia School for keeping them safe with the crosswalk, which the City approved.

Councillor Hill advised the 59th Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival was expanded to one week, and was a wonderful event. She thanked the sponsors and volunteers and congratulated Councillor Bob Maloney and CTV who were presented with a "Builder’s Award" for their support over the years.

Mayor Phil De Vos thanked and congratulated the Terriers for a fantastic season; the Haunts II for three nights of successful performances and complimented the "Taste of Yorkton" for a job well done.

A letter dated May 23, 2006 from the Fund Raising Chair, Ms. Karen Nordin of the Parkland Therapeutic Association was circulated for the consideration of Council.

Mr. Jerry Jemieff, a Director of the Parkland Therapeutic Association was present in Council Chambers to speak to their request.
