REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
April 30, 2012

Minutes of a Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, April 30, 2012 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 5:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Wilson, Councillors Arnelien, Fisher, Maloney, Okrainec, Pearen and Wyatt.

Staff Members Present: Bonnie Schenher, David Putz, Gord Shaw, Darcy McLeod, Lonnie Kaal, Michael Buchholzer, Trent Mandzuk, Chris Wentzell, Kelly Kaban, Don Kunkel; Josh Mickleborough

A quorum being present Mayor Wilson in the chair called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillor Les Arnelien thanked the volunteers and participants of the Blue Cross MS Society Walk which took place on Sunday, April 29th at the Gallagher Centre. It was a successful event with 50 participants raising over $10,000.00.

Councillor Ross Fisher acknowledged the success of the Radiothon which took place last week. Councillor Fisher thanked the businesses for their contributions, as well as the community for participating to raise funds for equipment at the hospital.

Councillor Fisher also advised that running clinics will be held every Tuesday and Thursday for the next several months, starting May 8th. Clinics will be held for beginner runners, as well as experienced runners who can choose the 10k run or ½ marathon. The clinics are free of charge and start at 5:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Yorkton Regional High School. Councillor Fisher also stated that there is a Fun Run on Sunday, May 6th, starting at the Wildlife Federation Building (Gun Club) at 11:00 a.m.

HEARING OF PETITIONS, PUBLIC NOTICES AND PRESENTATIONS

Presentation – Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association – Cheque Presentation

An e-mail dated 20, 2012 from Aron Hershmiller, Manager of Assiniboine Watershed Stewardship Association was circulated to Council. Aron Hershmiller presented the City of Yorkton with a cheque in the amount of $8,000.00 to go towards the Engineering Fees and the development of the Stormwater Detention Ponds on Logan Green.

Proclamation – NAOSH Planning Committee

A letter dated March 12, 2012 from Daniel Randall, a member of the NAOSH Planning Committee regarding proclaiming May 6 to12, 2012 NAOSH week in Yorkton was circulated for the consideration of Council. Daniel Randall was present in Council Chambers to speak to this request.

Appointment to the Economic Development Committee

A memo dated April 23, 2012 from Mayor Wilson regarding an appointment to the Economic Development Committee was presented for Council’s consideration.
