Minutes of a Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, November 5, 2012 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 5:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Maloney, Councillors Arnelien, Fisher, Goulden, Pearen, Wilson and Wyatt

Staff Members Present: Bonnie Schenher, David Putz, Gord Shaw, Lonnie Kaal, Chris Wentzell, Michael Eger, Brant Hryorczuk, Roy Lanaway, and Dean Clark

A quorum being present Mayor Maloney in the chair called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillor Goulden and Mayor Maloney attended the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Sask Provincial Council Awards luncheon on Sunday November 4th at St. Mary’s. There were four Nation Builders and five Community Recognition awards. Many of them from the Yorkton area, including Gerald Yaholnitsky, who is fromYorkton. Councillor Goulden thanked the congress for meeting here in Yorkton; Maryann Trischuk and Merle Maximiuk for hosting the event. The Lt. Governor was present for this event. The meal was outstanding and it was a great venue once again.

Mayor Maloney thanked members of our Royal Canadian Legion for the raising of the poppy flag which took place on Sunday November 4th at City Hall. Reminder to the citizens to get your poppy and wear it proudly this week. Try to attend the Remembrance Day Service this Sunday at the Gallagher Centre. Members of the Legion has a week of activities, visiting schools and other things in our community.

The Harvest Showdown was opened this morning with a branding ceremony. More activities will be starting later in the week, with the Grain show taking place Thursday night. Just a reminder, that these events are taking place in our city this week.

That Administration direct Planning Services to advise the Ministry of Government Relations the city has concerns about subdivision application R1142-12R within the NW ¼ Sec. 24-25-4-W2M due to there being no transportation management plan on this section of Hwy #9 which should be in place before large scale subdivisions are approved by the Ministry.
Further, the Ministry should not approve large scale subdivision proposals without providing a means of fire suppression within them at either the subdivision stage or through development decisions.

Director of Human Resources – City Hall Closure (Christmas 2012)

A report dated November 1, 2012 from the Director of Human Resources regarding the City Hall Closure (Christmas 2012) was circulated for the consideration of Council. Chris Wentzell was present in Council Chambers to speak to this report.

Further, that staff who would like to take these days off be required to utilize a day or days of vacation or lieu time, and those that choose not to take time off would be allowed to attend work.
