May 27, 2013

Minutes of a Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, May 27, 2013 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 5:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Maloney, Councillors Arnelien, Goulden, Pearen, and Wilson

Absent: Councilllor Wyatt

Staff Members Present: Bonnie Schenher, Darcy McLeod, Dean Clark, Faisal Anwar, Gord Shaw, Josh Mickleborough, Kaylee Diduck, Lonnie Kaal, Michael Buchholzer, Michael Eger, Roy Lanaway, and Trent Mandzuk

A quorum being present Mayor Maloney in the chair called the meeting to order at 5:01 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillor Arnelien congratulated local Terry Ortynsky for his co-production of the film “Twice” which debuted at Yorkton’s 66th Short Film and Video Festival.

Councillor Pearen attended the Grand Opening of the new Canadian Tire store. They are to be congratulated for being such a great addition to our city. The store is the second largest in Saskatchewan.

Mayor Maloney congratulated Councillor Goulden for the success of the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival and gave best wishes to the winners. He spoke to many visitors and it was very well attended. Events like the Film Festival put Yorkton “on the map”. He also informed everyone that it is possible to access up to 8,000 films free of charge by visiting the Film Festival Library.
Mayor Maloney attended Canadian Tire’s Grand Opening of their new store. Canadian Tire, in collaboration with the Fire Department and RCMP held a colouring contest and two new bikes were given away to the winners.

Mayor Maloney was present at the new Sask Tel Store for their ribbon cutting ceremony and congratulated them on their new location. He also took part in the MS Walk on Sunday, and commended all the people and volunteers who make these events happen.

Councillor Fisher arrived at 5:03 p.m.

Presentation – Tourism Yorkton Community Action Plan / “ Tourism Week” Proclamation – June 9 – 15, 2013

A letter dated May 13, 2013 from Tourism Yorkton was circulated for the consideration of Council. Neil Thom, President was present in Council Chambers to speak to this request.

There were two petitioners present in Council Chambers to speak with regards to proposed Bylaw No. 15/2013 – Amend Zoning Bylaw No. 14/2003 – Rezone 295 Bradbrooke Drive. Joyce McNeill spoke in opposition of the proposed bylaw. Erwin Heuck, on behalf of Schools-Inn, gave a presentation in support of the proposal.
