May 26, 2014

Minutes of a Regular Council Meeting held on Monday, May 26, 2014 in Council Chambers City Hall commencing at 5:00 p.m.

Present: Mayor Maloney, Councillors Arnelien, Fisher, Goulden, Pearen, Wilson and Wyatt

A quorum being present Mayor Maloney in the chair called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillors Arnelien, Wyatt and Fisher attended the 23rd annual Ritchie Hall Golf Classic on May 23rd.  It was a great event.  Over the last 23 years the Ritchie Hall Golf Classic has raised $450,000 for the Red Cross in Yorkton and area.  Thank you to the organizers for a well planned and attended event.

Mayor Maloney attended the parade held at the City Center Park in honor of the Terriers who were the RBC National Cup Champions.  A wrap up banquet was held Friday evening, where a number of awards were presented.  He congratulated the Yorkton Terriers, the Board and all the volunteers for such a successful year.  The next SJHL season will open training camp in six weeks.

Mayor Maloney also attended the Yorkton Film Festival. Councillor Goulden is the Executive Director of the festival.  It was another tremendous job in putting Yorkton on the map.  The Gala Awards evening was held on Saturday night.  Congrats to Randy and all volunteers; this is the festivals 67th year in the City of Yorkton.  There was also a very nice tribute to Ruth Shaw.

Director of Community Development, Parks and Recreation – JC Beach Ball Complex Outfield Fence Advertising Agreement

That the JC Beach Ball Complex outfield fence advertising agreement with Yorkton Minor Baseball be approved and further that administration establish an agreement with Yorkton Minor Baseball to provide an outfield fence advertising program at the JC Beach Ball Complex for a three-year term at no cost to the City of Yorkton.

Further, that the City receive a minimum of 10% of the gross revenue generated by the program in year two of the agreement and for any subsequent terms.

Director of Community Development, Parks and Recreation – Yorkton Cross Country Ski Club Building Agreement

A report dated May 20, 2014 from the Director of Community Development, Parks and Recreation regarding a storage building proposal at the Deer Park Golf Course by the Yorkton Cross Country Ski Club was circulated for the consideration of Council.  Darcy McLeod, Director of Community Development, Parks and Recreation was present in Council Chambers to speak to this report.

Further that Administration is to establish an agreement with the Cross Country Ski Club for the construction and use of a storage building located on City property at Deer Park Golf Course.

Furthermore, Engineering Services is authorized to enter into a contract with Logan Stevens Construction (2000) Ltd. for the Base Work of the Highway #9 and Hamilton Road Intersection Improvement project.
