PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Councillor Goulden made mention that on June 10, 2017 she attended the Parkland College Graduation and it was a wonderful and inspiring event to see 453 graduates emerging. There were four (4) graduating from the 4 year Bachelor of Nursing Program, and 64 candidates graduated from the brand new Parkland College Trades and Technology Centre. Councillor Goulden congratulated all the graduates, and mentioned that many had already secured employment. An extra special congratulation to Amanda Dietz, the Executive Administrative Assistant, as she was part of the graduating class as well.

Councillor Goulden also extended an invitation to Council and the public to the Canada Day Picnic for the 150th Canada Day Celebrations. The organizations involved in the Canada Day festivities for 2017 are Tourism Yorkton, the Western Development Museum, and the City of Yorkton Community Development, Parks and Recreation Department. A wonderful day is planned starting at noon, with activities that run through the whole afternoon until 4:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend those activities, and around 10:00 p.m., there are plans for fireworks to be set off at the Gallagher Centre! A full day in Yorkton celebrating Canada’s 150th!

Councillor Hippsley wished to publicly acknowledge and remind each one of us how lucky we are to live in Canada, ‘the best country on the planet earth.’ Councillor Hippsley asked that we stop and recognize all of our predecessors - their perseverance, hardships and sacrifices, along with our war veterans and public servants for giving us such a safe and free place to live and raise our children. Councillor Hippsley stated that we are so very blessed, so please take this time to go and celebrate by going to the Western Development Museum and partying!

Councillor Zaharia gave accolades to the Yorkton United Football Club, who had their wind-up tournament on June 24, 2017. It was nice to get out and see an estimated 600 children ages 10 and under playing soccer. The fields were full by the new water treatment plant. Councillor Zaharia publicly thanked Mike Jakubiec, Andy Wyatt, all the coaches, volunteers, organizers and athletes for the event; he stated it was nice to see.

Councillor Haider publicly thanked the SaskTel Pioneers. The group came to a previous Council Meeting to share some information about the 10th anniversary of the park on Betts Avenue. Councillor Haider stated on a personal level that he has witnessed the SaskTel Pioneers do such good work with his school, and with his wife’s nursery school; it was the least they could do to go out and celebrate the anniversary of the park with the SaskTel Pioneers. He stated that it was a wonderful afternoon.

Councillor Kienle spoke about ReDiscover Downtown’s recent Summer Festival. They temporarily closed the street down and put on a party for families. Councillor Kienle stated he would like to see more activities of the like. He acknowledged the ‘Rally in the Alley’ that was put on last fall, and stated that he hope it happens again this year. Councillor Kienle gave accolades to ReDiscover Downtown for their creativity and for organizing such a great summer event. He stated that fun was had, there was great food, and music, and it was a great community event. Councillor Goulden added to Councillor Kienle’s announcement that with the success of the Summer Festival, there will be a ‘Bash on Betts’ event held on July 15, 2017!
