The City of Yorkton undertakes to license all business activity conducted within the City. City of Yorkton Business License Bylaw 8/2006 provides the basis for business licensing.
The City of Yorkton Business License Bylaw No. 8/2006 regulates and requires that every business or person conducting business activity in the City apply for a business license. As defined under the bylaw a business is defined as a commercial, merchandizing, or industrial activity or undertaking; the carrying on of a profession, trade, occupation, calling or employment; and an activity providing goods and services.
The basis for licensing is to ensure that every business or person conducting business activity in the City provides all necessary information and third party approvals. The proposed business obtains all necessary information and approvals from the City relative to the operation of their business activity prior to commencement of the activity. This ensures compliance with zoning regulations, building code regulations, and fire code regulations. The information obtained through Business Licensing will sometimes facilitate planning decisions.
Licenses are categorized as Resident, Non-Resident, Transient Trader, Special Event and Direct Sales. Building Services staff is available to assist with all inquiries and applications.
