Public Notice
Intention to Designate Municipal Heritage Property

The Heritage Property Act, R.S.S., 1978, c. H-2.2 as amended

Notice is hereby given that not less than thirty (30) days from the date of service of this notice, the Council of the City of Yorkton, intends to pass a bylaw pursuant to the provisions of The Heritage Property Act, to designate as Municipal Heritage Property the following real property known as:

The Dulmage Homestead

Legally described as:
Parcel: 149985668
ISC plan: 101440459
S.W. ¼ Sec. 3, Twp. 26, Rge. 4 W. 2nd Mer.

And located at:
Within the boundaries of the Ravine Ecological Preserve west of the Yorkton Agriplex.

The reasons for designation are as follows:

  1. The Dulmage property was part of a quarter section of a large tract of land originally granted by the Dominion Government to Yorkton’s founding company, the York Farmers’ Colonization Company Limited of the City of Toronto, ON incorporated on May 12, 1882. The Dulmage property was the last of the company’s original land holdings.
  2. George Dulmage was a farmer, inventor, manufacturer, and an individual involved in a unique project of the wartime effort.
  3. Remnants of the Dulmage farmstead buildings, located within the city limits provide a one of a kind opportunity for people to learn about the farming, inventing and manufacturing experience.
  4. Together with the Ravine Ecological Preserve, the Dulmage farmstead incorporates a historical, cultural and environmental outdoor interpretive locale.

Any person wishing to object to the proposed designation must provide written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday, March 8, 2004 in City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 7:00 p.m. Written submissions will be considered when the public hearing in respect to this Notice of Intention to Designate is in session.

Jaycee Beach Skating

Just when the weather seemed to be co-operating, the ice conditions at Jaycee Beach are not favourable and the facility has been closed. For reasons we are trying to identify, water on the ice has created some safety issues. Whether it is from the extreme cold snap, the recent warming spell or from our flooding procedures, water has come through the ice and has created unsafe conditions.

The Parks Department will be contacting the City of Regina and possibly be taking a trip to Regina to assess their maintenance program and see what they are doing. Ice skating takes place nation wide and we want to offer it as a package here in Yorkton.

The Jaycee Beach skating program will be discontinued for the remainder of the year. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Parks Department at 786-1754.
