Proposed Bylaw No. 1/2005


The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 1983 hereby gives notice of its intention to consider Proposed Bylaw No. 1/2005 to amend Zoning Bylaw No.14/2003 on the following Section:

Section 5.6, subsections 5.6.1 and 5.6.2, shall be amended to include the Commercial Arterial District (C-2) in the Off-Street Parking Regulations - Alternative Options. The affected area is shaded-in on the map below.

The proposed zoning amendment will allow establishments in the Arterial Commercial District (C-2) that are deficient in the required number of on-site parking spaces, to exercise the option of setting up off-site parking or payment in lieu of parking.

The proposed zoning amendment may be inspected in the office of the Junior Planner, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday March 4th, 2005.

Any person may make oral or written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday, March 7th, 2005 in City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 5:00pm. Oral or written submissions will be considered when the Public Hearing, in respect to this application, is in session.

Public Notice
Recovery of Unused Prearranged Burial Lots


Leisure Services is in the process of recovering unused prearranged lots in the City of Yorkton Cemetery on King Street, which were purchased prior to 1950. If you are listed as the purchaser or next of kin, please contact our office prior to Friday, February 25, 2005 and advise us if you intend to keep this lot. If we do not hear from you or your representative by this date, we will proceed with an application to the provincial registrar for a declaration that interment rights have been abandoned.

Scheduling coordinator

 
Department of Leisure Services Scheduling Coordinator

The City of Yorkton is offering an opportunity for an energetic, enthusiastic Scheduling Coordinator. Reporting to the Program Supervisor this successful candidate must possess strong public relation skills and maintain positive working relationships with the general public, volunteers and community groups.

  • Responsible for the coordination of activities and programs for all Indoor and Outdoor facilities and Neighborhood Parks and Open Spaces operated by the Department of Leisure Services and the Gallagher Centre utilizing CLASS Software.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts including weekends. 
  • Responsible for daily scheduling, customer service functions, including administration and financial services. 
  • Develop and implement recording and tracking tools for all facility scheduling practices. 
  • Respond to requests from clients and the general public to ensure quality service and accountability through the preparation and administration of client agreements/contracts and group pre/post season meetings. 
  • Maintain accurate records including monthly invoicing. 
  • Track and record keys, alarm codes and other rental equipment. 
  • Assist the department with the implementation of various community events. 
  • Recruit, schedule and direct staff and equipment based on required tasks and events.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Diploma in Recreation, a related field or experience in municipal leisure facilities scheduling and programming. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid recognized First Aid/CPR certificate. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's License. Maintain RCMP Security Clearance.

is seeking applications for the following: 
Gloria Hayden Community Centre Attendant

Reporting directly to the Facilities Supervisor, this position will perform various duties relating to the general operation, care and attention of Gloria Hayden Community Centre. This includes administration, customer service functions, equipment set up and take down, cash reporting, scheduling and general maintenance.

Hours of work: 
10 - 20 hours/week, casual shifts including evenings and weekends.

The Successful Applicant will:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Take pride in their work. 
  • Be able to work with limited supervision. 
  • Be knowledgeable of community programs and related information of interest to the public. 
  • Possess the ability to understand and comply with safety policies & procedures. 
  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 drivers license. 
  • Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance. 
  • Possession of a valid recognized first aid/CPR certificate is an asset.

The City of Yorkton Archive is always looking for donations of original photos, documents, family histories, small artifacts, club records, etc. for the permanent collection.

We are also writing a history book for 2005, and could use the following items for possible insertion in the book and for the archival collection: photos of Ukrainian dancers of Yorkton past and present, Scottish dancers, German Club events, Barbershop/ Sweet Adeline groups, Radar Base and events there, etc.

Aquatic Centre News

 
Note: All courses will be moving from the Travelodge 
to the Comfort Inn effective February 1, 2005.

The City of Yorkton would like to thank the Travelodge and its staff for their support of our swimming program by allowing the City to use its swimming pool. Our aquacizers and learn-to-swim children appreciate all that you have done.

Swim Lesson Registrations: 
are still being taken for Aquaquest levels 1-4 that start on February 21.
Standard First Aid/CPR-C Courses:
Now taking registrations for a course on February 26th and 27th and one on March 9th and 10th. Cost is $100.
