Waterworks Foreman

  
Applications are invited for the position of 
Waterworks Foreman

Reporting to the Waterworks Manager, the Waterworks Foreman's responsibility is to provide front line technical support and primary supervision for the Water Treatment Plant and Pollution Control Plant. The Waterworks Foreman will supervise analytical laboratory work for operations, process and quality control, co-ordinates the mainline flushing program with the Sewer and Water Foreman, manage the bio-solids application, oversees personnel administration, budget preparation, control and reporting systems and landfill operations.

The Water Works Foreman is responsible for hiring, training, performance and follow-up within a unionized environment. Must be able to meet the objectives and policies as set by the City. The position is also given great latitude for creative and innovative opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess: 

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering or Water Science Technology or equivalent.
  • Possess or be able to obtain Saskatchewan Environment Certification in: Wastewater Treatment Class 4, Water Treatment Class 3, Water Distribution Class 3, Wastewater Collection Class 3. 
  • Obtain Fireman's Certification 
  • Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of; analytical lab equipment, procedures, quality control, computer spreadsheet and word processing programs, as well as, excellent verbal, written and supervisory skills. 
  • A high degree of personal initiative, good planning and organizational skills.
  • Five years experience with at least two years at the supervisory level demonstrating a thorough knowledge of water and wastewater. 
  • Eligibility for membership in SASTT. 
  • A team player fostering positive communication with staff, contractors and citizens. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's license. 
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.

Temporary Probationary Fire Fighters

 
Job Opportunity Applications are invited for the position of 
TEMPORARY PROBATIONARY FIRE FIGHTERS

Reporting to the Fire Chief and Deputies the Temporary Probationary Fire Fighters shall be used to augment Full-Time Fire Fighting Staff on an as needed basis for vacation, sick leave, disability leave, training leave or any other approved absences.

Applicants must be able to: 
  • carry out a wide variety of duties under the supervision of senior fire fighting staff; 
  • maintain an extensive knowledge of fire operations, apparatus, equipment and methods used in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; 
  • comply with all City policies, procedures and OH & S safety regulations and work cooperatively in a team environment; 
  • be able to perform shift work and be available for call back duties.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalency; 
  • As a minimum Level 1 - 1001 I.F.S.A.C. Fire Fighter certification, with preference given to those who have graduated from a recognized Fire College or have equivalent IFSAC/NFPA certification. 
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates; 
  • Must possess and maintain valid Class 5 driver's license, preference will be given to those who have Air Brakes Endorsement; 
  • Must be in good physical fitness, pass a physical fitness evaluation and maintain a high standard of physical conditioning being able to perform physical fire fighting duties under adverse conditions; 
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP Security Clearance; 
  • 18 years of age; 
  • Provide a medical certificate signifying that no disabling conditions exist which may prohibit effective and efficient job performance, or jeopardize the health and safety of co-workers; 
  • Must meet the Canadian Vision Standard for Fire Fighters; 
  • Successfully complete Fire Department job related skill testing; 
  • Consideration may be given to candidates who reside within the corporate limits of the City of Yorkton.
Salary:
In accordance with the current Fire Fighters Collective Agreement $14.19 per hour for 2004.

Grant Writer Position

  
Proposals are Invited for a Grant Writer Position

The City of Yorkton invites proposals for a Grant Writer to be proactive in researching and applying for new and existing funding opportunities for the City of Yorkton.

The Grant Writer will research, assess and write grant proposals for external funding sources, working in conjunction with the various departments of the City of Yorkton. You must have 2 - 5 years experience in grant research and writing and be familiar with Federal, Provincial, Public and Private agencies, services and programs. The Grant Writer must have a good understanding of Municipal Government including knowledge of the City of Yorkton operations. This position will be a key player in developing detailed plans of action for identifying external grant sources, maintaining detailed records of submissions, deadlines and follow-up and analysis. Candidates must possess excellent public relations, written and oral communication skills.

Garage Sales Signs

  
Spring and Summer are the time of year for yard and garage sales. It is illegal to place signs of any type, including those for yard sales, on boulevards, lamp posts, sidewalks or other City property. Your best advertising is still your local newspaper. Garage Sale signs are to be placed on your own private property for location identification.

City of Yorkton Sign Regulations Bylaw #16/2003 states the following:

  • No advertisement shall be permitted which is attached to a fence, pole, tree, or any object in a public street or place.
  • No advertisement shall be permitted which is attached to or standing on the ground in any public street or place.

Signs in violation of this bylaw will be picked up at owner's expense.

Details of Tender:
Quotations are invited for the crushing of the City's recycled concrete and asphalt. The work shall include the crushing and stockpiling of the following approximate quantities of reclaimed materials:

PART A - Approximately 5,200 cubic meters of recycled concrete
PART B - Approximately 2,000 cubic meters of recycled asphalt

Contractors should note that each part shall be treated as a separate quotation. All quantities on the Schedule of Prices are approximate and the City reserves the right to adjust quantities at the time of placing order. This license will help identify owners of bicycle(s)
recovered due to loss or theft.
