Proposed Bylaw No. 32/2008

Public Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Yorkton intends to consider passage of Bylaw No. 32/2008, known as the Borrowing Bylaw, a bylaw to provide for the borrowing of $2,000,000 for the purpose of financing the construction of subdivision development, at the Council Meeting of Monday, December 15th, at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 37 Third Avenue North.

Commissions of Council - 2009

The City of Yorkton is inviting applications from people interested in serving on the various Commissions of Council for the year 2009.  Appointments will be made early in January to the following:

  • Business Improvement District Board
  • Development Appeals Board
  • Economic Development Commission
  • Leisure Services Commission (includes Ravine Ecological Preserve Sub-Commission, and Deer Park Advisory)
  • Municipal Planning Commission (includes Municipal Heritage Sub-Commission)
  • Protective Services Commission
  • Solid Waste Management Committee
  • Yorkton Local Library Board
  • Yorkton Airport Authority

Auxiliary Fire Fighters

The City of Yorkton Fire Department

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department is looking for highly motivated persons, male or female, over the age of 18, residing in city limits to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force. Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full-Time Department. If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of Fire Department apparatus and the facility. Response to emergency incidents can include: fires; dangerous goods; rescue work; and other duties as assigned. Personal and public safety is of paramount importance therefore successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will receive protective clothing, a radio, and will be placed on an on-call rotation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test. RCMP security clearance and a valid Saskatchewan license and abstract are also required. Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training / certification.

HOURS OF WORK:
On-call hours include Monday through Friday 6:00p.m. to 7:00a.m., 24 hours on weekends and statutory holidays. Wednesday evenings are designated for training from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. (These are not Full-time paid firefighting positions.)

Engineering Student / Technical Assistant

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
ENGINEERING STUDENT – TECHNICAL ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING & ENGINEERING

This position shall provide the technical assistance for surveying and AutoCAD/GIS for capital projects and replacement and maintenance programs particularly relating to the Planning and Engineering Department working under the direction of the Engineering Assistant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provide assistance with surveying on various construction projects.
  • Provide assistance with AutoCAD/GIS for various projects.
  • Assist with maintenance of engineering plans and records.
  • Perform other related duties as requested and assist with the general operation of the Engineering office.
  • Must comply with the OH&S Act and Regulations, and all Safety Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Use every reasonable precaution to avoid workplace incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good relations with staff and the general public.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Currently enrolled in a recognized Technical Institute or University pursuing employment in an Engineering field.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Provincial driver’s license. 
  • Possess and maintain R.C.M.P. security clearance.

City Engineer

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
CITY ENGINEER

The City of Yorkton has a Full Time City Engineer position available for a dynamic, highly motivated individual.  Our City is undergoing major growth resulting in many interesting and challenging initiatives. Located on the Yellowhead Highway, Yorkton is a progressive community of approximately 15,000 people serving as a hub to the Parkland region.  Due to its large trading area, Yorkton has many larger city amenities and provides the quality of life of a smaller community.

Reporting directly to the Manager of Engineering the City Engineer will have a strong understanding of the municipal engineering environment and provide leadership at both the strategic and technical levels on municipal infrastructure projects including but not limited to the following: 

  • Streets and roads,
  • Water mains, sanitary and storm sewer mains,
  • Subdivision design and development,
  • Municipal buildings and facilities

You will lead proposal development, supervising the advancement of projects through the concept, design and construction phases.  As an experienced project manager you will have the responsibility for generating and maintaining project planning documentation including schedules, budgets, cost control processes and work procedures.  The City Engineer assists with the implementation of policies and procedures, manages operations such as the municipal airport and transit contracts, current and long-range city planning and development, budget processes and staff selection, training and development. 

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.  Consideration may be given to candidates who have an equivalent combination of municipal experience and education;
  • Registration with APEGS;
  • A high degree of personal initiative, good planning, and organizational skills;
  • Proven management experience with the ability to foster a participative team environment, promoting a productive workplace and excellent customer service;
  • Strong leadership characteristics and sound financial management skills;
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills to effectively deal with all levels of staff, elected officials, government agencies, consultants and the general public;
  • A valid class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license;
  • RCMP security clearance.

Public Skating Patrols Required

The City of Yorkton is seeking 2 individuals who would be responsible for supervision of the public skating program at the Kinsmen Arena on Sunday evenings from approximately 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.  The individuals will be remunerated accordingly.
