Proposed Bylaw No. 20/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No.20/2008 to authorize the closing of the following street:

"All of the lane in Block 3, lying to the West of the Westerly limit of Seventh Avenue as shown on Plan 02Y01012, Yorkton Saskatchewan."

More specifically shown by the shaded area on the map below.

The proposed Bylaw No. 20/2008 may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up to 12:00 noon on Friday July 4, 2008.

The proposed closure of the lane is to allow for a more efficient subdivision lot configuration.

Any person may make oral or written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday July 7, 2008 in the City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 5:00 p.m. All submissions must be submitted in writing by 12:00 noon Thursday July 3, 2008 to Bonnie Schenher, City Clerk.  Oral or written submissions will be considered when the Public Hearing, in respect to this application, is in session.

Public Notice
Proposed Bylaw No. 21/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 21/2008 to permit the reduction in the minimum lot width from 10.0m and 8.5m (corner lot and next in, respectively) to 7.6m for 44 and 46 Clarke Avenue, and reduces the required minimum corner lot side yard setback from 3.0m to 1.4m.  These reductions are required to recognize two recently built semi-detached dwelling units as legal conforming uses.

Proposed Bylaw No. 23/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 23/2008 to recognize existing single-family dwellings on Smith St. E., Sixth Ave. N., Fifth Ave N. and Myrtle Ave. south of Smith St. W., currently zoned City Centre Commercial C-1 Zoning District, as legal conforming uses.

A new City Centre Commercial (Transitional) CT-1 Zoning District, together with Development Standards for residential uses in the CT-1 Zone, are proposed to be established by Bylaw No. 23/2008.

The proposed bylaw zoning amendment may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday, July 4, 2008.

Firstly: "All of the lane in Block 2, north of Lot 1, lying to the West of the Westerly limit of Seventh Avenue as shown on Plan 02Y01012, Yorkton Saskatchewan."

Secondly: "All of the lane in Block 2, south of Lot 1, lying to the West of the Westerly limit of Seventh Avenue as shown on Plan 02Y01012, Yorkton Saskatchewan."

The proposed closure of the lanes is to allow for greater development opportunities on the adjacent lots.

Street Closure Notice

Please be advised of a scheduled street closure on Broadway Street between Myrtle Avenue to Betts Avenue as well as Agricultural Avenue, south of Broadway to the alley entrance during the Annual Show and Shine car show hosted by the Rolling Thunder Cruisers.    

This closure will be in effect from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 19, 2008.

Yorkton in Bloom 2008

For the past 12 years the Yorkton In Bloom Committee has promoted the Local Grounds Competition.  This is an exciting program that focuses on beautification of the city.  This initiative was designed to involve the citizens of Yorkton in the challenge of improving the visual appeal of our city, and to compete for local awards.

Categories for the 2008 Local Grounds Competition are as follows:
Best Home Grounds (Front Yard)
Best Home Grounds (Back Yard)
Best Mobile Home Grounds
Best Vegetable Garden
Best Apartment Garden
Best Senior Housing Unit
Best Senior Housing Complex
Best Senior Housing Deck/Balcony

The Committee is sponsoring a Golden Bloom Award.

The Yorkton & District Horticultural Society will be hosting a Yard & Garden Tour on Thursday, July 31, 2008 of the winning entries. The tour departs at 9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. from the Yorkton Public Library.  The public is welcome to take part in the tour.

The City of Yorkton has designated the dwarf sunflower and the sunflower as the official flower of Yorkton.  Local residents and businesses are encouraged to plant these flowers.

Deadline for entries is Friday, July 18, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.
Judging will take place from July 21 -23, 2008
