Proposed Bylaw No. 14/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 14/2008 to permit the reduction in the Minimum Lot Depth from 34.0m to 28.0m for lots 57 and 58, Block 18, Registered Plan No. 99Y04947

The proposed bylaw zoning amendment may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday June 13, 2008.

Bylaw No. 14/2008

Any person may make oral or written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday June 16, 2008 in the City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 5:00 p.m. All submissions must be submitted in writing by 12:00 noon Thursday June 12, 2008 to Bonnie Schenher, City Clerk.  Oral or written submissions will be considered when the Public Hearing, in respect to this application, is in session.

  • Experience with municipal software is an asset

HOURS OF WORK:
Monday through Friday typically 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – 22.5 hour work week

The City of Yorkton is a great place to work and if you enjoy a busy and challenging work environment, we encourage you to apply for a Seasonal Deer Park Labourer II position for the Leisure Services Parks Department.  Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Deer Park Labourer II performs a wide variety of operational and maintenance tasks related to the execution of golf course maintenance.  This includes but is not limited to the operation of equipment and activities generally associated with turf grass maintenance. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operation of Turf grass maintenance equipment, Golf utility vehicle, chainsaw, string trimmer and other related equipment
  • Ability to perform necessary scheduled maintenance on equipment
  • Perform manual labour duties and under varied weather conditions
  • Comply with OH&S Act and Regulations, using every reasonable precaution to prevent workplace injury
  • Ability to work courteously and cooperatively with the general public and other City staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Education.
  • Good Public relations skills
  • Self-starter and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance

HOURS OF WORK:
Shift work including weekends.  Full Time for approximately 22 weeks.

Water Works Foreman

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
WATER WORKS FOREMAN

Yorkton is seeking a key player for its Environmental Services Management Team.  If you are interested in a high quality of life and a low cost of living, then Yorkton will appeal to you.  Located on the Yellowhead Highway, Yorkton is a vibrant and progressive community of approximately 16,000 people serving as a hub to the beautiful Parkland region.  Due to its large trading area, Yorkton has many larger city amenities and provides the quality of life of a smaller community.

Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, the Water Works Foreman’s responsibility is to provide front line technical support and primary supervision for the Water Treatment Plant, Pollution Control Plant and Landfill. The Waterworks Foreman will supervise analytical laboratory work for operations, process and quality control, co-ordinates the mainline flushing program with the Sewer and Water Foreman, manages the bio-solids application, oversees personnel administration, budget preparation, control and reporting systems and landfill operations.

The Water Works Foreman is responsible for hiring, training, performance and follow-up within a unionized environment. Must be able to meet the objectives and policies as set by the City.  The position is also given great latitude for creative and innovative opportunities.  The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. A diploma in Civil Engineering or Water Science Technology or equivalent.
  2. Possess or be able to obtain Saskatchewan Environment Certification in: Wastewater Treatment Class 4, Water Treatment Class 3, Water Distribution Class 3, Wastewater Collection Class 3.
  3. Obtain Fireman’s Certification.
  4. Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of; analytical lab equipment, procedures, quality control, computer spreadsheet and word processing programs, as well as, excellent verbal, written and supervisory skills.
  5. A high degree of personal initiative, good planning and organizational skills.
  6. Five years experience with at least two years at the supervisory level demonstrating a thorough knowledge of water and wastewater.
  7. Eligibility for membership in SASTT.
  8. A team player fostering positive communication with staff, contractors and citizens.
  9. Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s license.
  10. Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.

Yorkton in Bloom 2008

For the past 12 years the Yorkton In Bloom Committee has promoted the Local Grounds Competition.  This is an exciting program that focuses on beautification of the city.  This initiative was designed to involve the citizens of Yorkton in the challenge of improving the visual appeal of our city, and to compete for local awards.

The Yorkton & District Horticultural Society will be hosting a Yard & Garden Tour on Thursday, July 31, 2008 of the winning entries. The tour departs at 9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. from the Yorkton Public Library.  The public is welcome to take part in the tour.

The City of Yorkton has designated the dwarf sunflower and the sunflower as the official flower of Yorkton.  Local residents and businesses are encouraged to plant these flowers.

Deadline for entries is Friday, July 18, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.
Judging will take place from July 21 -23, 2008

No person or persons shall operate any vehicle transporting wastes or other debris of any kind along or over any highway, street, lane, vacant lot, park or public place in the City of Yorkton unless the load is completely enclosed with a securely fastened cover as to prohibit any part of the load on the said vehicle finding its way to the roadway or adjacent premises.
