Public Notice is hereby given that pursuant to subsection 187(1) of The Cities Act, the assessment roll for the City of Yorkton for the year 2009 has been prepared and is open to inspection in the office of the assessor from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following days: March 5 to May 4, 2009, inclusive.

Any person who wishes to appeal against his or her assessment or classification to the Board of Revision is required to file his or her appeal with: The Secretary to the Board of Revision, City of Yorkton, P.O. Box 400, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, S3N 2W3 on or before the 4th day of May, 2009.

Notice of Public Meeting
Re: Orkney Annexation

The City of Yorkton, pursuant to Section 43 of The Cities Act, gave notice of its intention to apply for an alteration of its municipal boundaries to incorporate land currently under the jurisdiction of the Rural Municipality of Orkney No. 244 as shown on the map below and described as follows:

The purpose of the proposed alteration is to provide sufficient lands within the City of Yorkton to accommodate continuing residential, commercial, industrial and institutional development, as well as to protect potential future areas of expansion from incompatible land uses developed to rural rather than urban design and engineering standards.

The City of Yorkton has received written notice of objection to the proposed boundary alteration.  Therefore, pursuant to Section 43 of The Cities Act, the City of Yorkton hereby gives notice that a public meeting regarding the proposed alteration of municipal boundaries will take place on the 8th day of April 2009 in Convention Room A & B, at the Gallagher Centre, 455 Broadway Street West, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 7:30 p.m.

Any person wishing to speak at the public meeting will be provided 5 minutes to present their information or views relevant to the proposed boundary alteration.

Process & Building Mechanical

Sealed bids clearly marked "City of Yorkton, Queen Street WTP, Contract 4:  Process & Building Mechanical" will be received up to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009 and should be sent to:

The work involves the construction of process and building mechanical work for the Queen Street Water Treatment Plant.

Contract Documents may be examined at the Associated Engineering offices located in Saskatoon and Regina and the Construction Association.

Contract Documents will be available for pickup by interested General Contractors at the offices of Associated Engineering in Saskatoon on or after Thursday, March 12, 2009 upon deposit of $100.00 per set, GST included. Deposits will be refunded only to those General Contractors submitting bona fide bids.  An electronic copy (PDF) of the Contract Documents is available at no charge.

Bids must be accompanied by the specified Bid Bond and Consent of Surety Company payable to the City of Yorkton.

The lowest or any bid will not necessarily be accepted.

The City of Yorkton Fire Department invites applications for the position of

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department is looking for highly motivated persons, male or female, over the age of 18, residing in city limits to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force.  Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full-Time Department.  If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of Fire Department apparatus and the facility.  Response to emergency incidents can include: fires; dangerous goods; rescue work; and other duties as assigned.  Personal and public safety is of paramount importance therefore successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will receive protective clothing, a radio, and will be placed on an on-call rotation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test.  RCMP security clearance and a valid Saskatchewan license and abstract are also required.  Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training / certification.

HOURS OF WORK:
On-call hours include Monday through Friday 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 24 hours on weekends and statutory holidays.  Wednesday evenings are designated for training from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  (These are not Full-time paid firefighting positions.)

Two Seasonal Labourer III - Public Works

SEASONAL LABOURER III POSITIONS
SEWER AND WATER DIVISION
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The City of Yorkton is a great place to work and if you enjoy a busy and challenging work environment, we encourage you to apply for one of the Seasonal Labourer III positions with the Sewer and Water Division for the Public Works Department.   

This position reports directly to the Sewer and Water Foreman.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs skilled labour duties and operation of small tools and equipment in Water & Sewer construction under varied weather conditions.
  • Work as a team player on various projects such as water main and sewer main replacement, residential service connection repair and replacement, sewer flushing and sewer inspection.
  • Performs daily equipment checks and minor maintenance as required.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and comply with all City of Yorkton Standard Operating Procedures, Policies and Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Maintain open lines of communication and good working relationships with Co-workers and Supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade XII Education or GED Equivalency
  • Current C.P.R. and First Aid Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain valid Class 3A Driver’s License
  • Must be able to perform physical labour duties
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP Security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain required SERM certification

SALARY:

Salary will be in paid as a Labourer III in accordance with Local 342 CUPE Collective Agreement.
