Public Notice is hereby given that pursuant to subsection 187(1) of The Cities Act, the assessment roll for the City of Yorkton for the year 2009 has been prepared and is open to inspection in the office of the assessor from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following days: March 5 to May 4, 2009, inclusive.

Any person who wishes to appeal against his or her assessment or classification to the Board of Revision is required to file his or her appeal with: The Secretary to the Board of Revision, City of Yorkton, P.O. Box 400, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, S3N 2W3 on or before the 4th day of May, 2009.

Public Notice
Proposed Bylaw No. 7/2009

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 7/2009, which is an amendment to City of Yorkton Zoning Bylaw No. 14/2003 to rezone the property from IN – Institutional to R-3  - Medium Density Residential and to reduce the minimum rear yard from 7.5 m to 6.0 m, and permit an outdoor amenity area in the required front yard for 7 Alderwood Pl., as shown on Schedule ‘A’ to this Bylaw.

The proposed zoning bylaw amendment may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday March 6, 2009.

Deputy Fire Chief

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF – TRAINING AND OPERATIONS

Working under the general supervision of the Fire Chief, the City of Yorkton Fire Protective Services invites applications for the position of Deputy Fire Chief – Training and Operations. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement training programs for a composite department including budget requirements.
  • Monitor, evaluate and up-grade training to ensure effective fire protective services.
  • Manage the development and implementation of departmental standard operating guidelines.
  • Instruct and conduct training exercises for both permanent and auxiliary fire fighters.
  • Maintain up-to-date employee training records.
  • Conduct daily crew Captain briefing to ensure routine daily tasks are understood and completed.
  • Be proactive and creative in identifying and assessing risk.
  • Assist with the development and managing of the overall Fire Department Operating and Capital Budgets.
  • Coordinate and maintain Fire Department vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Liaise closely with D/C Prevention and Public Education regarding the deployment of fire fighting crews at/to various times and/or locations.
  • Act as Duty On-Call Chief Officer for a seven (7) day period on a rotating basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 5 Provincial driver’s license with an air brake endorsement.
  • 10 years Fire Fighting experience, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess or obtain the following qualifications:

    NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Certification Level II
    NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
    NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II
    NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector & Plan Examiner Level II
    NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Level III
    NFPA 1035 Public Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I and/or
          NFPA 1041 Fire Services Instructor Level I
    Incident Command System 300

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Most possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
  • A complete and comprehensive knowledge of Fire Department activities, including fire prevention, public safety education, emergency measures experience, fire and emergency response with the ability to lead and direct emergency incidents is required.  Preference will be given to candidates with a Business Administration Degree/Certificate and/or Certificate in Fire Service Management.

Waterworks Operator

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF
FULL TIME WATERWORKS OPERATOR

Reporting to the Waterworks Foreman, the Waterworks Operator is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and associated appurtenances. The operator performs skilled work to control treatment processes along with detailed sampling, monitoring and analysis of water and wastewater and processing streams.

This work consists of rotational, non-standard hours, which consists of shift work, nights, evenings and weekends and includes stand-by and callouts.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 or Equivalency as determined by Saskatchewan Education with Trade and Secondary Education Equivalencies considered.
  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment field and boiler operation, with preference given for a combination of training and experience in an appropriate trade.
  • Skill and knowledge related to millwright, plumbing, pipefitting, welding, carpentry and electricity.
  • Possess or ability to obtain the appropriate Environmental Operator Certification.
  •  Ability to perform strenuous physical labour.
  • Demonstrate mechanical and computer aptitude.
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate SCBA, Fireman’s Boiler Certification, First Aid & CPR Certificates.
  • Possess and maintain a Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
The Water Works Operator salary is based as per collective agreement with CUPE Local 342.

Notice to Residents Regarding
Curbside Blue Box Recycling Program

The curbside blue box recycling service has a weekly schedule for pickups in all areas of the City.  However, services may be interrupted due to equipment breakdowns, inclement weather or statutory holidays.  When these interruptions occur, public announcements are made on each of the three local radio stations.  Residents can also contact the Blue Box Recycling Service phone number at 786-1840 to confirm services on that particular day.

In the event of service cancellation on your regular day of pickup, the schedule will remain as is and residents will have the following options:

  • Store recyclables until the next scheduled pickup day for the following week or
  • Drop off recyclable material at the Kinsmen Recycling Centre located at 144 Ball Road or at a Community Recycling Bin.

Community Recycling Bins are located at several convenient locations and are strictly intended for residential use.  These locations are:
