Director of H. R. - Maternity Leave
Applications are invited for A Director of Human Resources, Maternity Leave August 2009 to December 2010

The City of Yorkton is an affordable, progressive community experiencing excellent growth!  We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Human Resources Professional for a maternity leave.  This position will provide strategic leadership and guidance in all areas of employee and labour relations.  If you would like the opportunity to be instrumental in developing a positive work culture and working closely with a management team in providing new opportunities for employees we encourage you to consider joining our team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Build and maintains positive working relationships with Unions and Out-of-Scope employees;
  • Provides advice, guidance and support to the Management Team in all areas including succession planning, employee recognition, performance management, discipline, and conflict resolution;
  • Works with employee focus groups to review and create positive, progressive HR policies and ensures compliance with labour legislation, policies and collective agreements;
  • Investigates and participates in grievance resolution and arbitration hearings if necessary;
  • Assists with compensation, job evaluations, benefits and internal equity issues;
  • Responsible for research and analysis including compensation surveys and document preparation for collective bargaining;
  • Administers the HRIS database for municipal employees;
  • Responsible for recruitment and retention initiatives and strategies, employee orientation, overseeing the Benefit Program, WCB Claims, Return-to-Work and accommodation programs and working with OHS Committees;
  • Facilitate and coordinate ongoing training and development opportunities for employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a degree with a specialty in HR, an HR diploma or equivalent education and experience with at least 5 years of HR generalist experience;
  • Preference given to those candidates possessing Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation;
  • Excellent Interpersonal and problem solving skills;
  • Work in collaboration, strong communication and team building skills;
  • Experience in use of HRIS, job evaluations and Web-based tools;
  • A valid class 5 Saskatchewan driver’s license;
  • RCMP security clearance.

Notice to Residents
Spring Clean-up Week

The week of Monday, May 4 to Saturday, May 9, 2009 has been declared by City Council to be "Spring Clean-Up Week".

Residents of the City of Yorkton are requested to clean their properties and improve the image and appeal of our community.  To encourage participation, the City will waive the landfill entrance fee for residential waste (excluding recyclables) for cars, half ton trucks and single axle utility trailers for this period.

Sidewalk Replacement Tender

Sealed bids clearly marked "City of Yorkton, Sidewalk Replacement Tender" will be received up to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 and should be sent to:

This Tender is for the demolition, supply and installation of 800 square meters of sidewalk.
Tenders shall remain open for acceptance by the City and irrevocable for thirty (30) calendar days following the date specified for tender closing.

Seasonal Labourer III - Roads & Streets
Applications are invited for A Seasonal Labourer III - Roads & Streets/Concrete Division

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Works / Roads and Streets Foreman.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform skilled labour duties on concrete construction projects including sidewalks, curbs and gutters and other related projects that the City of Yorkton may be required to undertake.
  • Periodic operation of equipment and trucks used in the efficient performance of assigned duties.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and minor maintenance as required.
  • Completes work orders, time sheets, and required reports promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all City of Yorkton Standard Operating Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Maintains open line of communication with Supervisors and Co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grade XII Education or GED Equivalency
  • Current C.P.R. and First Aid Certificates
  • Most possess and maintain valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Several years’ knowledge of general construction operations with relevant experience in placement and finishing of concrete.
  • Must be able to perform physical labour duties.
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP Security clearance.

SALARY:
Salary will be in paid in accordance with Local 342 CUPE Collective Agreement.
