Intent to Apply for Alteration of Boundaries

Pursuant to Section 43 of The Cities Act, the City of Yorkton hereby gives notice of its intention to apply for an alteration of its municipal boundaries to incorporate land currently under the jurisdiction of the Rural Municipality of Wallace No. 243 as shown on the attached map and described as follows:

Legal Description of Rural Municipality of Wallace No. 243 Lands in proposed Annexation Area:

  • All those portions of the NW ¼ of Section 6 in Twp. 26, Rge. 3 W2M lying in the R.M of Wallace No. 243
  • All of those portions of the S ½ of Section 6 in Twp. 26, Rge. 3 W2M lying in the R.M. of Wallace No. 243
  • All of those portions of the NW ¼ of Section 31 in Twp. 25, Rge 3 W2M lying in the R.M of Wallace No. 243

The purpose of the proposed alteration is to provide sufficient lands within the City of Yorkton to accommodate a proposed residential and highway commercial development.

Any person who wishes to object to the proposed boundary alteration may file a written objection, within four weeks of the last publication of this notice, stating clearly the reason(s) for their opposition. This notice must be received be received by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2009 by the City Clerk of the City of Yorkton at the address below:

City of Yorkton Commissions of Council 2010

The City of Yorkton is inviting applications from people interested in serving on the various Commissions of Council for the year 2010.  Appointments will be made early in January to the following:

  • Business Improvement District Board
  • Development Appeals Board
  • Economic Development Committee
  • Leisure Services Committee (includes Ravine Ecological Preserve Sub-Committee, and Deer Park Advisory Sub-Committee)
  • Municipal Planning Commission (includes Municipal Heritage Advisory Sub-Commission)
  • Protective Services Committee
  • Solid Waste Management Committee
  • Yorkton Housing Committee
  • Yorkton Public Library Board
  • Yorkton Airport Authority

Online Community Videos

The City of Yorkton is pleased to announce the launch of a new program “Video Tour Book”. It will have a significant impact on the promotion of our wonderful community. The series of streaming online videos highlights all our community has to offer its residents, visitors and businesses.  The city's official web site has now been enhanced with streaming community videos. The different video chapters highlight a wide range of topics including overview, education, real estate and relocation, quality of life, economic development, and leisure services. These videos were produced and provided free of charge to the City by Rochester, U.S.A. based CGI Communications with the support of our local business sponsors. Informational videos about the local business sponsors are also located around the videos along with links to those business's web sites. Stop by the home page to take a look at all that Yorkton has to offer.

Job Opportunities
Lifeguards

Applications are invited for the following positions
at the Gallagher Centre Water Park:

Casual Lifeguard II:
Reporting directly to the Aquatic Programmer.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual must be able to perform a variety of duties as follows: 

  • Perform lifeguard duties according to the National Lifesaving Society (NLS) standards.
  • Complete all basic janitorial daily tasks as assigned and report any deficiencies.
  • Complete incident/accident reports for submission.
  • Complete participant report cards.
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends as required;

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of grade 10 education or equivalency
  • Bronze Cross
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C or Aquatic Emergency Care
  • National Lifeguard Service Award
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Pool Operator’s Certificate is preferred
  • Physical fitness needs to be maintained
  • Basic understanding of pool operation
  • Possess and maintain RCMP security clearance

Salary:
Will be $14.77-$15.87 per hour depending on qualifications in accordance with the City of Yorkton Out-of-Scope Salary Grid.

Casual Instructor/Lifeguard I:
Reporting directly to the Aquatic Programmer

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
This individual must be able to perform a variety of duties as follows: 

  • Perform lifeguard duties according to the National Lifesaving Society (NLS) standards.
    • Instruct life saving, water safety lessons and courses, as well as fitness programs as assigned.
    • Ensure lesson plans are completed, results recorded, and submitted.
  • Complete all basic janitorial daily tasks as assigned and report any deficiencies.
  • Complete incident/accident reports for submission.
  • Complete participant report cards.
  • Ability to work shift work and weekends as required;

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of grade 10 education or equivalency
  • Bronze Cross
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C or Aquatic Emergency Care
  • National Lifeguard Service Award
  • Lifesaving Instructor
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Physical fitness needs to be maintained

Salary
Will be $16.29-$17.50 per hour depending on qualifications in accordance with the City of Yorkton Out-of-Scope Salary Grid.
