Notice to the Public
Sanitary Landfill Fee Changes

The following rate changes will be implemented at the Yorkton Sanitary Landfill effective March 8, 2010.  Applicable vehicles will be weighed via a scale system and charged accordingly. The designated site for the disposal of concrete and brick material will continue to be the Public Works Yard located at 85 York Road East.

Volunteer Opportunity Available

Chairperson, Solid Waste Management Committee

The City of Yorkton is seeking an individual to fulfill the volunteer position of Chairperson of the Solid Waste Management Committee.  To qualify as the Chair of this City Council appointed committee, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Canadian citizen;
  • Full age of eighteen (18) years;
  • Reside in the municipality, or on land now in the municipality, for at least three (3) months; or
  • Is the owner of assessable land situated in the municipality, or of land now situated in the municipality, for at least three (3) months; and
  • Has resided in Saskatchewan for at least six (6) months.

The Committee consists of volunteers that meet monthly to discuss the solid waste needs, requirements and concerns of the residents of Yorkton and make recommendations to Council that will enable the City of Yorkton to achieve a Zero solid waste discharge to the landfill by 2026.  As the Chair of this Committee, one should possess the following:

  • Committee experience, past or present
  • Broad community interest
  • Interest in solid waste management and recycling practices
  • Background or knowledge in the development of business plans
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Willingness to volunteer and advocate

2010 Gate Valve Exercising Program

The Public Works Department will be commencing a water gate valve exercising program starting Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Gate valve exercising is required to ensure the smooth operation of these isolation valves. City crews will be operating the valves from approximately 7:00 a.m. through to 4:00 p.m. daily until March 26, 2010. They will be starting on the East side of the city, moving towards the West. Discolored water may occur during this time. The City apologizes for any inconvenience.

If further information is required, please contact the Public Works Department at 786-1760 between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Activities Exchange Program

The Activities Exchange Program is a project of Partners in Settlement and Integration in partnership with the City of Yorkton.  This project aims to support immigrant integration into the community through sports and recreation.

The project is open to newcomers to Canada who are living in the area and also to Canadians who would like to be a part of the integration process of newcomers to our area.  For more information please call 306-782-0023 or email psiyorkton@abilitiescouncil.sk.ca.

We are looking for hockey skates Size 9 and up.  If you have any skates that you would be willing to donate, please drop them off at the Leisure Services desk at City Hall, 37 3rd Avenue North.  Contact: Amber, Urban Youth Sport Coordinator at or call 306-828-2401.
