What we do

The City of Yorkton Fleet Operations Division provides responsive and efficient fleet management services to City Divisions, maximizing safety, promoting environmental stability and minimizing lifecycle costs.

The Fleet Operations Division is responsible for managing the City’s fleet of approximately 150 corporate vehicles and equipment ranging from excavators and motor graders to light trucks and commercial equipment. This equipment has an estimated replacement value of over $10,000,000. Fleet Operations purchases, manages and maintains vehicles; manages fuel; and assists in the coordination of operator training and safety oversight.  The Division’s aim is to provide other City divisions with responsive, flexible, efficient and comprehensive support to aid in the delivery of public programs and services.

Fleet Safety

Fleet Operation ensures all vehicles are safe for use by employees. This is done in part through providing safety advice to user groups prior to vehicle purchase to ensure the vehicle will be equipped with the appropriate safety devices, while meeting operational requirements of the vehicle. We want staff to feel safe when driving a Fleet vehicle and residents to be confident when driving next to or near a City of Yorkton vehicle. Safety is a priority and is promoted through a detailed safety program; comprehensive vehicle inspections; Computerized Maintenance Management System with designated maintenance intervals; and by ensuring all operators are trained to operate each piece of equipment in their control.

Environment

Promoting a healthy environment through the reduction of greenhouse gases is very important to the City of Yorkton. Fleet Operations is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its operations. To accomplish this, we are commited to investigating new green vehicle alternatives and technologies, reducing idle time through policies and vehicle tracking , constant consultation with user groups to ensure the “right sizing” of equipment prior to purchase requirements and using blended fuels to name a few.
