June 23, 2022 - City crews will continue crack sealing in the following locations this week:

  • Smith St. (Dracup - Highway 9)
  • Mayhew (York Road - Darlington Street)
  • York Road East (Mayhew - Whitesand Drive)

June 14, 2022 - City crews will be crack sealing in the downtown area between Smith Street & Broadway Street, from Myrtle Ave. to 6th Ave. N. starting Wednesday, June 15, pending weather conditions.

Crews will be working between 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. and expect to complete this section within three days.

The City will be completing asphalt pavement crack sealing beginning next week, Monday, May 30, starting on Riverview Road and Parkview Road.

Crack sealing will be complete over the next four weeks, pending weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians should use caution while in the work zone area. Crack sealant takes about 30 - 40 minutes to dry once it has been applied. Vehicles approaching a road that has been crack sealed should slow down to minimize sand disruption.

Why is sand added after crack sealing?
Sand applied over sealed cracks is an important component of the crack sealing process for two reasons:
  1. It allows vehicles to drive over freshly sealed cracks without the emulsion product sticking to the vehicle tires; and
  2. It is needed to properly bond the sealant to the road surface.

The City of Yorkton thanks businesses and residents for their understanding and patience. Slow down and be safe. Workers and their families are relying on you. Visit Current Alerts for other traffic restrictions.
