August 16, 2010 - Community Dumpsters Removal

The community dumpsters that were provided to support the flood cleanup will be removed effective Monday August 30, 2010. These dumpsters are currently located at:

  • Public Works on York Road
  • Old Crown Mart location (Assiniboia Avenue and South Front Street)
  • Park Street

August 16, 2010 - Landfill Hours of Operation

Until August 31st: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday
September 1st to 30th: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday to Friday
8:00 am – 6:00 pm on Saturday
Oct. 1st to April 30th: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Friday
9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday

The Landfill is closed each Sunday as well as Statutory Holidays (Monday, September 6th)

July 31, 2010 - Requirement for Building Permits due to July 1 Flood

A building permit will be required for the following work needing to be completed due to the restoration work occurring in homes, commercial (retail / office), institutional, industrial, assembly and multi-family buildings:

  1. Building Permit will be required to re-construct exterior basement framing, install insulation, poly, and wall covering when the wall covering and / or framing members have been completely removed from the basement wall adjacent to the exterior foundation wall.  (i.e. removal from floor level to the underside of the main floor system).
  2. Building Permit will be required when any repair work to a fire separation required to be provided with a minimum fire resistance rating has been altered during the restoration and cleanup process.
  3. Building Permit will be required for all structural work that is being completed. A structural engineer’s design and review may be required in some instances.

The above should not be construed as a complete list, but has been provided to offer information as to whether a building permit will be required. If there are any questions relating to whether a building permit should be taken out for proposed work please contact Building Services, Planning & Engineering Department at 786-1710.

July 28, 2010 - Flood Debris Removal

Dumpster Information

Community dumpsters will continue to be maintained at the following locations:

  • Public Works – York Road
  • Water Tower - Park Street

Community dumpsters at the following locations will be closed as of Saturday, July 31, 2010:

  • St. Paul’s School
  • M.C. Knoll School

A community dumpster will be open on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 and will continue to be maintained at the following location:

  • Old Crown Mart location (Assiniboia Avenue and South Front Street)

Landfill Information

The City Landfill is open 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Keep your receipts from the landfill and submit them to your insurance company and/or the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP). *

*The City of Yorkton can’t guarantee that landfill expenses will be covered through your insurance company or the Provincial Disaster Relief Program. Please contact them directly for more information.

July 15, 2010 - Cash Donations

People and organizations looking to make cash donations to the Yorkton flood relief efforts can contact any of the organizations listed here.

July 9, 2010 - Public Library Closed Due to Flooding

Due to the recent flooding, the Yorkton Public Library is closed until further notice.

The Library is looking for volunteers to help with moving the books out of the facility to allow remediation work to occur in the facility. Anyone interested in helping out can visit the Library in person to volunteer.

July 8, 2010 - Other Flood Related Public Notices

Flood Relief Clean Up Kits
Flood Relief Clean up kits, which include household cleaning items, are available at the temporary Salvation Army location in the Parkland Mall during regular Mall operating hours.

Temporary Location For The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has set up a temporary location for the Food Bank and Clothing Centre at the Parkland Mall.

The Temporary Salvation Army Clothing Centre
- is located in the old Pre-school Playland location in the Mall

The Salvation Army Food Bank
- is located beside the old Shopper’s Drug Mart location in the Mall.
