The City of Yorkton in partnership with the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority has been working on a demonstration xeriscaping garden.
What is Xeriscaping?
Xeriscaping is a low-water type of landscaping that often involves garden rocks, gravel, sculptural features and mulch. Drought resistant plants and shrubs may also be used in this quality landscaping. Xeriscaping is not visually different from conventional landscaping and can be done on any type of open space. Xeriscaping not only conserves water but also reduces maintenance.
Why choose Xeriscaping?
Xeriscaping allows households to consume 50-75% less water.
There is no need for fertilizers or pesticides.
Watering is cut in half and maintenance is minimal.
