Parks Department News

Back Lanes
Residents are reminded that back lanes need to be maintained so that they are accessible. Parks crews will be monitoring back lanes over the next couple of weeks and informing residents where encroachment is into the right of way. Residents need to maintain back lane trees and shrubs to their property line and ensure clear access.

Tree Pruning
Low-level tree pruning is underway on residential streets from Myrtle Ave. to Dracup Ave. and Smith St. to York Road. City parks crews will be removing low-lying branches off of sidewalks and streets. Please use caution when travelling on these streets.

Pest Control Program
The parks department has an ongoing pest program. Mosquito control programs are ongoing and all sites have placards. Product used for control is Vectobac. Weed control is also ongoing and where control is performed, the areas have placards. Chemical used for control are Round-Up and Par III.

Businesses and residents are reminded of some noxious weeds that are invading our properties. Scentless Chamomile is a daisy like plant that is listed in this noxious category. The weed must be controlled. This weed, once removed, must be either burned or buried. Pulling the weed is an excellent control method.

There has been increased skunk activity and again, pests on private properties are the responsibility of the home or business owner. In the case of skunks and other pests, removal of the pest is your responsibility. The City of Yorkton will look after city properties and residents are responsible for private properties. The City of Yorkton has a list of licensed contractors that do removals for a 'fee for service'.
