Blue Box Recycling Service

In early 2006, the City and Prairie Harvest Employment Program initiated a Blue Box Recycling Service for residents in the City of Yorkton.  Each week, Prairie Harvest picks up approximately 1,276 blue boxes containing recyclable items.  These same households have been supplied with a blue bag for separation of paper and cardboard items.  Prior to the Blue Box Program, all items collected would have likely been disposed of in the sanitary landfill.  The City encourages our residents to participate in this program and separate recyclable items from your household refuse.  Not only will it assist in extending the life of our landfill but further reduces waste in our environment by re-using these same materials.   Some of the items being collected are:

  • Glass
  • Tins
  • Paper & cardboard
  • Plastic milk containers

To receive your blue box and blue bag, and to sign up for this weekly service to your residence, please contact Prairie Harvest Employment at 786-1840.
