Moving dollars from a Capital Reserve Account
to an Operating Account

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 101 of The Cities Act hereby gives public notice of its intention to move a maximum amount of $10,000.00 from the Parks Shop Reserve Capital Account to the Parks Shop Operating Account for the purpose of completing the necessary roof repairs at the Parks Shop located at 263 Myrtle.

The City of Yorkton is seeking a talented and self-motivated individual with a passion for computers and technology to join our Information Technology team as the Computer Support Technician. An ideal candidate would be creative, conscientious, and detail-oriented, with excellent spoken and written communication skills, and with excellent research skills. This dynamic candidate would also be competent in a wide range of disciplines including customer service, hardware, software, networking, databases, web site design, and multimedia creation/design/editing. This person would be able to maintain high levels of confidentiality while offering consistent high-quality service to staff and citizens in an ever-evolving environment.

The Computer Support Technician shall report to and complement the Computer/Network Systems Manager in the overall administration, planning, organizing, co-ordination, control and evaluation of the City of Yorkton’s computer operations, programs and network services and all related information services for the City of Yorkton.

Details of Tender:
The City of Yorkton is accepting quotations for the complete supply and installation of one (1) 7.5 Tonne Electric Cool/Gas Heat Roof Top Unit with stainless steel heat exchangers, that meets ASHRAE 90.1 Regulations and is Energy Star Qualified with a minimum of 11.0 Energy Efficiency Ratio. The installation must be completed so that the unit is operating and fully functional within the building system.

Tenders shall remain open for acceptance by the City and irrevocable for thirty (30) calendar days following the date specified for tender closing. 

Tenders received after the date and time specified for closing will be marked late and be returned unopened.

Street Closure Notice

Please be advised of a scheduled street closure on Broadway Street between Myrtle Avenue to Betts Avenue as well as Agricultural Avenue, south of Broadway to the alley entrance during the Annual Show and Shine car show hosted by the Rolling Thunder Cruisers.    

This closure will be in effect from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Yorkton in Bloom 2007

For the past 11 years the Yorkton In Bloom Committee has promoted the Local Grounds Competition.  This is an exciting program that focuses on beautification of the city.  This initiative was designed to involve the citizens of Yorkton in the challenge of improving the visual appeal of our city, and to compete for local awards.

The Yorkton & District Horticultural Society will be hosting a Yard & Garden Tour on Friday, August 3, 2007 of the winning entries.  The public is welcome to take part in the tour.

The Yorkton 125 Committee has designated the dwarf sunflower and the sunflower as the Yorkton 125 flower for 2007.  Local residents and businesses are encouraged to plant these flowers in celebration of Yorkton’s 125 years of settlement in 2007.

Deadline for entries is Friday July 20, 2007 at 4:30 p.m.
Judging will take place from July 23 – 25, 2007

Notice to Dog Owners

Dog ownership has many benefits, but with ownership also comes responsibility.  The City of Yorkton understands the joys pet ownership can bring.  Please ensure that you clean up after your pet.

Please make every effort to observe the following bylaw requirement:

Clean up after your pet:

    • If a dog defecates on any public or private property within the City of Yorkton other than the property of its owner, the owner of the animal shall cause the defecation to be removed immediately.  This includes all city property (ie. sidewalks, parks, as well as your neighbour’s lawn).  Please carry a plastic bag at all times when you take your pet for a walk.
    • Any person owning a dog and occupying a property in the City of Yorkton shall remove any and all dog defecation from the said property on a daily basis and shall dispose of the defecation in a sanitary manner.
