Proposed Bylaw No. 32/2008

Public Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Yorkton intends to consider passage of Bylaw No. 32/2008, known as a Borrowing Bylaw, a bylaw to provide for the borrowing of $10,000,000 for the purpose of financing the construction of the Queen Street Water Treatment Plant, at the Council Meeting of Monday, December 1, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 37 Third Avenue North.

Proposed Bylaw No. 40/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Sections 8(1)(g) and 13 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 40/2008, which provides for the permanent closure of one laneway in Lot 18, Block 6, Plan 00Y05677.
The proposed bylaw may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday November 28, 2008.

Any person may make oral or written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 in the City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 5:00 p.m. All submissions must be submitted in writing by 12:00 noon Thursday November 27, 2008 to Bonnie Schenher, City Clerk.  Oral or written submissions will be considered when the Public Hearing, in respect to this application, is in session.

The City of Yorkton is inviting applications from people interested in serving on the various Commissions of Council for the year 2009.  Appointments will be made early in January to the following:

  • Business Improvement District Board
  • Development Appeals Board
  • Economic Development Commission
  • Leisure Services Commission (includes Ravine Ecological Preserve Sub-Commission, and Deer Park Advisory)
  • Municipal Planning Commission (includes Municipal Heritage Sub-Commission)
  • Protective Services Commission
  • Solid Waste Management Committee
  • Yorkton Local Library Board
  • Yorkton Airport Authority

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department
invites applications for the position of
Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department is looking for highly motivated persons, male or female, over the age of 18 to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force.  Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full-Time Department.  If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity. 

Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of Fire Department apparatus and the facility.  Response to emergency incidents can include: fires; dangerous goods; rescue work; and other duties as assigned.  Personal and public safety is of paramount importance therefore successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will receive protective clothing, a pager, and will be placed on an on-call rotation

Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test.  RCMP security clearance and a valid driver’s license is also required.  Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training / certification.

These are paid on call positions with weekly training provided at the Fire Hall.  On-call hours include Monday through Friday 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
