North Industrial Water Supply – Phase 2

Sealed bids marked "Bid for City of Yorkton, North Industrial Water Supply - Phase 2" will be received up to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the City of Yorkton, Box 400, 37 -Third Avenue North, Yorkton, SK  S3N 2W3.

The work involves the installation of approximately 5700 m of 500 mm diameter potable water supply main and associated appurtenances.

Contract Documents may be examined at the City of Yorkton.

Contract Documents will be available for pickup by interested General Contractors at the City of Yorkton on or after Thursday, February 5, 2009 upon deposit of $100.00 per set, GST included.

Deputy Fire Chief


Working under the general supervision of the Fire Chief, the City of Yorkton Fire Protective Services invites applications for the position of Deputy Fire Chief – Prevention and Public Education. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Fire Inspections/Code Enforcement within the municipal boundaries as related to the National Building and Fire Codes, and the Municipal Bylaws.
  • Research, interpret, and provide information as it relates to the National Building and Fire Codes.
  • Provide public education and relations on behalf of the Department to the general public.
  • Carry out fire investigations and compile documentation and reports for the Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
  • Assist with the development and recommendations for the annual Fire Prevention Budget along with the overall Fire Department Operating and Capital Budgets.
  • Develop for approval, guidelines and procedures for Fire Prevention, Inspections, and Public Education as well as all other Department guidelines and procedures.
  • Schedule meetings and attendance for Public Education activities.
  • Liaise closely with D/C Training and Operations regarding the deployment of fire fighting crews at/to various times and/or locations.
  • Act as Duty On-Call Chief Officer for a seven (7) day period on a rotating basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 5 Provincial driver’s license with an air brake endorsement.
  • 10 years Fire Fighting experience, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess or obtain the following qualifications:

    NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Certification Level II
    NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
    NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II
    NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector & Plan Examiner Level II
    NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Level III
    NFPA 1035 Public Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I and/or
           NFPA 1041 Fire Services Instructor Level I
    Incident Command System 300

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Most possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
  • A complete and comprehensive knowledge of Fire Department activities, including fire prevention, public safety education, emergency measures experience, fire and emergency response with the ability to lead and direct emergency incidents is required.  Preference will be given to candidates with a Business Administration Degree/Certificate and/or Certificate in Fire Service Management.

The City of Yorkton Fire Department invites applications for the position of

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department is looking for highly motivated persons, male or female, over the age of 18, residing in city limits to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force.  Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full-Time Department.  If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity. 

Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of Fire Department apparatus and the facility.  Response to emergency incidents can include: fires; dangerous goods; rescue work; and other duties as assigned.  Personal and public safety is of paramount importance therefore successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will receive protective clothing, a radio, and will be placed on an on-call rotation.


Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test.  RCMP security clearance and a valid Saskatchewan license and abstract are also required.  Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training / certification.


On-call hours include Monday through Friday 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 24 hours on weekends and statutory holidays.  Wednesday evenings are designated for training from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  (These are not Full-time paid firefighting positions.)
