Jaycee Beach design moves forward as City prepares for public engagement Logan Green selected as new location for Yorkton’s off-leash dog park
August 18, 2026
The City of Yorkton is moving forward with design work for the revitalization of Jaycee Beach at Hopkins Lake and will soon invite residents to help shape the next stages of the project.
The goal of the Jaycee Beach Revitalization project is to bring back outdoor swimming and create a welcoming recreation area for people of all ages. Current design work will help confirm what can be built, how much it may cost and what could be included in each phase.
“Jaycee Beach has been part of Yorkton’s recreation history for generations, and there is a lot of excitement about what this area could become again,” said Mayor Aaron Kienle. “As the design moves forward, we want residents to understand what is being planned and have meaningful opportunities to tell us what matters to them.”
The City has hired Praxis Consulting Inc., a Saskatchewan-based management consulting and research firm, to lead the public engagement process. Engagement on Jaycee Beach will include stakeholder interviews, community focus groups, a community survey and a public open house.
Some parts of the project are already planned, while other details remain open for feedback. The City will clearly identify what can be influenced and will share what it hears through the engagement process.
Off-leash dog park moving to Logan Green
As part of the Jaycee Beach project, the current off-leash dog park will move from Hopkins Lake to Logan Green.
Relocating the dog park will make room for the future swimming area and help protect water quality at Hopkins Lake. The feasibility work identified concerns about pet waste entering the lake through runoff and recommended moving the dog park away from the future swimming area.
The City reviewed possible relocation sites before selecting Logan Green. The new dog park will be larger than the current site, with room to consider additional amenities as the design moves forward.
Yorkton will continue to have an off-leash dog park.
“The location has been selected, but there is still a lot we want to hear from the people who will use the space and those who live in the surrounding area,” said Mayor Kienle. “This is an opportunity to think about what works well today, what could be improved and what we should consider as we plan the new site.”
Separate engagement opportunities will be available for dog park users and residents in the area surrounding Logan Green. Feedback will focus on topics such as access, parking, fencing, layout, amenities, maintenance and other considerations for the new dog park.
How to get involved
The Jaycee Beach Revitalization and dog park relocation will have separate engagement opportunities so residents can provide focused feedback on each project.
Details about upcoming focus groups, the Jaycee Beach community survey and the public open house will be shared shortly.
