ON-DEMAND TRANSIT TO BRING MORE FLEXIBLE SERVICE TO YORKTON
Yorkton, SK – Getting around Yorkton will become more flexible and convenient with the launch of a new on-demand transit service in January 2027.
This new model will replace Yorkton’s traditional fixed-route model with a flexible, stop-to-stop service based entirely on individual trip requests. Rather than following predetermined routes and schedules, transit vehicles will respond to where and when residents need to travel
Powered by the Blaise platform, the new service will introduce automated scheduling and dispatching. Riders will be able to request trips in real time or book in advance using the Blaise passenger mobile app, providing greater flexibility and convenience compared to traditional fixed-route systems.
This new service is designed to improve accessibility, reduce wait times, and better align service with rider demand. By matching trips dynamically, the system will provide residents with more convenient transportation while making efficient use of available transit vehicles.
“This transition represents a significant step forward for transit services in Yorkton,” said Mayor Aaron Kienle. “The on-demand model will allow us to respond directly to the needs of our community, improving both service reliability and the overall rider experience.”
To support a smooth transition, the City will launch a comprehensive community and rider education campaign later this fall. This will include information sessions, user guides, and outreach efforts to help residents understand how to access and use the new system.
The on-demand transit system reflects the City’s commitment to modernizing municipal services and enhancing mobility options for all residents, including seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and those who need more flexible transportation options.
Additional details on service availability, operating hours, and booking instructions will be shared ahead before the January 2027 launch.
