Shipping Containers

If you plan to place a shipping container within the City of Yorkton, you must apply for a Shipping Container Permit.

Completed shipping container application submitted to our Building Services department
Must meet the City's regulations for zoning
Must follow the National Building and Fire Codes including existing shipping containers
Only allowed in commercial and industrial areas
No stacking of shipping containers
Cannot create a hazard
Cannot block any:
- exits
- windows
- on-street parking spaces
- required off-street parking spaces
- driveways
- access to public utilities
Multiple shipping containers placed together under 600 square meters (6458 square feet) must have a foundation or group anchors that meet the required setbacks of a building
Subject to a tax assessment when exceeding 9.92 square meters (100 square feet)
No advertising on shipping containers
Not allowed for screening or fencing usage
Kept clean and well maintained
Placed in an orderly manner
No storage of junk, trash or hazardous materials

Total floor space cannot exceed 59.94 square meters (645 square feet)
No stacking of shipping containers
Cannot create a hazard
Cannot block any exits, windows, on-street parking spaces, or access to public utilities
Kept clean and well maintained
Placed in an orderly manner

3 to 11 months	$150 per month
12 plus months	$500 per month
SAMA inspection fee (if applicable)	$25
GST on SAMA inspection fee	$1.25
