Urban Forestry

Yorkton's urban forest is made up of both public and private trees, and is of great environmental, social, and economic value. The urban forest helps clean the air we breathe, provides shade and cooling, breaks wind and noise, shelters birds and animals, and fosters a sense of community that contributes to our quality of life.

Requirements for the protection of the urban forest is outlined in the Urban Forestry Bylaw.

Tree Maintenance & Inspection

The City's Parks Division is responsible for the care and maintenance of City owned trees on boulevards, medians, and in parks and green spaces.

Request a Tree

Residents can request a tree for the boulevard next to their property. Requests are approved subject to the availability and suitability of tree species and the planting site.

Construction & Work Around Trees

Everyone has a roll to play in protecting the urban forest. Homeowners, developers, and contractors all need to comply with City regulations for the health and safety of City trees.

Tree Care

Correct care is vital for newly planted trees, and beneficial for the health of established trees, especially during dry conditions.
