Tree Planting Programs and Projects
The City of Yorkton plants trees each year to help grow and maintain a healthy, resilient urban forest. Tree planting occurs in parks, green spaces, boulevards, medians, and other City-owned areas through seasonal planting programs, replacement planting, special projects, and community partnerships.
Trees provide shade, improve air quality, support wildlife, help manage stormwater, and contribute to attractive and livable neighbourhoods.
Residents may request a tree for the boulevard adjacent to their property. Requests are reviewed based on site suitability, available species, operational priorities, and program availability.
Spring Tree Planting Program
Each spring, the City undertakes tree planting in boulevards, parks, green spaces, medians, and other suitable City-owned locations. Spring planting supports replacement of removed trees, expansion of the urban tree canopy, and completion of priority planting projects.
Include:
- Typical program period: May to June, weather and site conditions permitting
- Locations included in the program
- How planting locations are selected
- General description of tree-species selection
- Notice that schedules may change due to weather, nursery availability, utility clearance, site conditions, or operational priorities
Fall Tree Planting Program
The City may complete additional planting in the fall when weather and site conditions are suitable. Fall planting may include boulevard and park tree replacements, special projects, and grant-supported initiatives.
Include:
- Typical period: September to October, weather permitting
- Focus areas or project types
- Explanation that fall work may vary annually based on operational capacity and project timing
