Residential Organics Collection

Residential Organics Collection

In 2025 the City of Yorkton introduced a seasonal city-wide curbside organics program for all single family and duplex household. The primary goal of the program is to slow the filling of the existing landfill while also reducing the greenhouse gases emitted from the landfill. Note that this program is seasonal, starting the second week of April up to and including the first week of November annually.

Collection days scheduled on a holiday will always be rescheduled. The 2026 residential organics collection schedule outlines the alternative collection days.

Leaves, grass clippings and garden/yard waste ONLY.

If the branch/twig has a diameter roughly the same size or smaller than a pencil, it can go into organics cart. Once they get bigger than that they are slow breaking down and need to be screened out of the compost, resulting in additional processing. This is why branches larger than a pencil in diameter should go into garbage cart (or landfill directly) rather than green organics cart.

Compostable bags will be allowed.

NOT accepted items: food waste, tree branches and plastic packaging/bags.
