Special Events and Permits

Special events, block parties, and parades enrich life in Yorkton and create opportunities for residents and visitors to celebrate, connect, and make memories. Whether it’s a neighbourhood block party, a festival in the park, a parade, or a community event downtown, we’re here to help you get the permits you need.

Parade Permit

For events that move along a defined route on public streets — such as marches, parades, or processions.

  • A Parade Permit is required whenever an event travels along a route that impacts street traffic.
  • Includes coordination with City departments for traffic control and public safety.
  • You may also need additional permits if the parade ends in a park or event zone (see Special Events below).

Block Parties

For stationary events held on a street or block, including temporary lane closures within that block (e.g., BBQs, street concerts, neighbourhood celebrations).

  • Full street/block closure allowed between intersections.
  • Emergency vehicle access must always be maintained.
  • Suitable for activities like community gatherings or small street festivals.
  • Residential block parties require a petition signed by 2/3 of households on the street.

Special Events

For events held in City parks.

  • Includes community days, festivals, cultural celebrations, family events, etc.
  • Minor street closures (e.g., for food trucks or access behind a park) can be included as part of the Special Event review — no residential petition required.
  • Planning may include vendor approvals, entertainment, and site layout.

Important Things to Remember
