Fitness programs

 Yoga

Yoga is a form of exercise that focuses on spiritual and physical aspects of the body. Yoga incorporates breathing, exercise and mediation to aid in the improvement of overall health and happiness. There are many different forms of Yoga that can assist in improving your overall health:
  • Flow yoga
  • Restorative yoga
  • Qi gong
  • Yin yoga

All yoga programs are offered at the Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre, in the Programming room on the main level. Registration can be done online by selecting the register button below.

Location

 Boot camp

Fitness boot camps are for anyone and everyone and can be adapted to suit your own personal fitness level and goals. This program, run by a certified fitness instructor, will guide you through a variety of different workouts during every class.

Summer programs

S-CAPE is our summer program based on culture, arts and physically active experiences. We provide a safe, positive, energetic program and environment that incorporates sports, culture, arts, recreation, and leadership components for children and youth between the ages of 6 and 12. S-CAPE meets at many locations throughout the city to allow your child or children to experience everything Yorkton has to offer.

Registration for S-CAPE opens on the last Wednesday of March of each year. Registration online is available by selecting the button below.

Commemorative and Memorial Program

You can adopt a park bench or tree in memory of a loved one, to dedicate to a friend or family member, or to commemorate a special event.

 Bench Program
Benches are located in parks, on pathways, or elsewhere upon approval from the City. Each bench will be installed upon a concrete pad 5 feet in depth and 8 feet in length.
 
Option 1 
  • Commemorations can be installed on existing benches, as long as benches are available.
  • One engraved stainless steel plaque, measuring 5 inches by 2.5 inches in size.
  • Commemoration engraving will be completed in consultation with the purchaser.
  • A proof of commemoration will be provided to the purchaser prior to completion.
Option 2 
  • One red powder coated bench, 6 feet in length.
  • Laser cut commemoration will be placed into powder coated bench.
  • Commemoration design will be completed in consultation with the purchaser.
  • A proof of the commemoration will be provided to the purchaser prior to completion
  • One concrete garbage or recycling can with a lid.
Option 3 
  • One concrete and wood bench. Bench dimensions include: 7 feet in length.
  • One engraved stainless steel plaque, measuring 8.5 inches by 10 inches in size.
  • Commemoration engraving will be completed in consultation with the purchaser.
  • One concrete garbage or recycling can with lid.
 Tree Program 
Option 1, Logan Green:
 
Memorial plaques at the Logan Green Memorial Tree Park will include: 
  • One plaque, engraved and measuring 2.5 inches by 4 inches
    • Individuals buy a memorial plaque to be installed on existing podium within the Logan Green Memorial Tree Park.
  • Located at Logan Green Park, south of the Tupper Street entrance.
  • Trees are already established with in the Memorial Tree Park. City staff will provide the same care and maintenance other municipal trees receive from the City. The following types of trees are already established:
    • Paper Birch
    • Ornament Crab Apple
    • Linden Little Leaf
    • Spruce
    • Scotch Pine
 
The standard for memorial trees located at Deer Park Golf Course will include: 
  • Located inside the clubhouse is a plaque recognizing people that have a tree planted in memory.
  • Location of the tree planting will be at the discretion of the City on a case-by-case basis.
  • Memorial Trees will be hardwoods (50-millimetre caliper) and conifers (250-centimetre height).
  • The choice of tree species is subject to City approval.
  • City staff will provide the same care and maintenance other municipal trees receive from the City.
Park/Facility Improvement
There are two Park/Facility Improvement options available:
  • Buy park/facility furniture or equipment
  • Assist with the establishment/enhancement of an existing park or facility.
Recognition would be in the form of an engraved plaque. Measurements will be dictated based on the facility or improvement made.
The approval of all park improvements and the respective locations will be at the discretion of the City. Criteria include:
  • How will it benefit the community?
  • Will it aesthetically improve the space?
  • How does the improvement affect the functions and purpose of the space?
  • What will the impact be to the operations and the cost to maintain?
  • Is the improvement appropriate for the park or facility?
