Freedom of Information

The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LA FOIP) promotes the openness and transparency of municipal governments and the protection of an individual's privacy. The Act enables people to apply for access to records held by the City and sets out rules on how the City collects, uses and shares personal information.

You have a right to request records in the possession of the City of Yorkton. Records can include information that is written, photographed, recorded, digitized or stored in any manner.

Fees

A $20.00 application fee is payable at the time the application is made. Payment can be made the following ways:

City Hall is located at 37 Third Avenue North in Yorkton

Business hours are: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding holidays)

Acceptable payments include:

  • Interac (debit) payments

Please note: We do not accept credit card payments in person.

You will need your invoice number to complete transaction.

Pay at our after-hours drop box

You can pay by cheque using the 24-hour payment drop box located inside the front doors of City Hall.

Please include the memo: Attn: City Clerk's Office – Access to Information Request.

Please do not put cash payments in the drop box.

In addition, we may charge certain fees relating to searching for a record or preparing it for release. Where fees are assessed at $100 or more, a fee estimate will be provided. We may request a deposit of 50% of the fee estimate before proceeding with the request. The other 50% is payable when the information is provided to you.

Response time

We are required to respond within 30 calendar days of receiving the request and application fee.
