HEAVY DUTY MECHANIC/SHOP FOREMAN 
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Located on the Yellowhead Highway, Yorkton is a progressive community of approximately 17,000 people serving as a hub to the Parkland region. Due to its large trading area, Yorkton has many larger city amenities and provides the quality of life of a smaller community. Yorkton is seeking a key player for its Public Works Management Team. The City is offering a challenging employment opportunity for a highly motivated and responsible individual as a Heavy Duty Mechanic/Shop Foreman.

Reporting to the Director of Public Works, this position is responsible for fleet repair, maintenance, replacement and planning of all industrial and automotive equipment.

MAYOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of municipal operations relating to fleet maintenance and planning. 
  • Responsible for capital equipment purchases, budget, tendering and purchasing in accordance with City Policies. 
  • Supervises workshop operations, safety programs, building and yard maintenance. 
  • Oversees staff selection, training and development. 
  • Preference given to a hands-on Heavy Duty Journeyman Mechanic with several years of experience in supervising a large shop. 
  • Must be able to maintain a parts store and inventory control. 
  • Must possess excellent management and communication skills. 
  • Knowledge and in-depth understanding of current Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, the ability to adhere to City of Yorkton Policies and Procedures as well as any other applicable legislation. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Saskatchewan Driver's Licence and Airbrake 3A preferred. 
  • Preference given to those who reside within the corporate limits of the City of Yorkton.

DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND ENGINEERING

Located on the Yellowhead Highway, Yorkton is a progressive community of approximately 17,000 people serving as a hub to the Parkland region. Due to its large trading area, Yorkton has many larger city amenities and provides the quality of life of a smaller community. The City of Yorkton is seeking a key player for its management team, as the Director of Planning and Engineering, to evaluate, co-ordinate and implement a sound plan for the growth, development and renewal of our vibrant community. Reporting directly to the City Manager, Major Responsibilities Include: Responsible for the City's Municipal Planning Services, specifically the ongoing review and application of the Development Plan and Zoning Bylaw including the processes required for land use planning, sub-division approvals, development and zoning control; including overseeing the Building Inspection Division. Responsible for the Engineering Division, overseeing the planning and construction of the City infrastructure in accordance with good engineering practices. Acting as an Advisor to City Council, Administration, the Municipal Planning Commission and the Business Improvement District; Prepare reports, recommendations, policies and project proposals; Conduct research on development issues, carry out urban design projects and follow through on the Downtown Redevelopment Plan serving as a visionary in local and regional planning initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred candidate will have a degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related profession; Five years municipal experience; Possess sound knowledge of the principals and practices of planning and be familiar with Provincial Legislation as well as municipal bylaws; Must possess strong communication/report writing and computer skills.

Yorkton in Bloom 2006


For the past ten years the Yorkton In Bloom Committee has promoted the Local Grounds Competition. This is an exciting program that focuses on beautification of the city. This initiative was designed to involve the citizens of Yorkton in the challenge of improving the visual appeal of our city, and to compete for local awards.
