The City of Yorkton Invites Applications for a Director of Planning and Engineering

The City of Yorkton is seeking a key player for its management team, as the Director of Planning and Engineering, to evaluate, co-ordinate and implement a sound plan for the growth, development and renewal of our vibrant community. Reporting directly to the City Manager, MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Responsible for the City's Municipal Planning Services, specifically the ongoing review and application of the Development Plan and Zoning bylaw including the processes required for land use planning, sub-division approvals, development and zoning control; including overseeing the Building Inspection Division. Responsible for the Engineering Division, overseeing the planning and construction of the City infrastructure in accordance with good engineering practices. Acting as an Advisor to City Council, Administration, the Municipal Planning Commission and the Business Improvement District; Prepare reports, recommendations, policies and project proposals; Conduct research on development issues, carry out urban design projects and follow through on the Downtown Redevelopment Plan serving as a visionary in local and regional planning initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate will have a degree in Urban or Regional Planning or related profession; Five years municipal experience; Possess sound knowledge of the principals and practices of planning and be familiar with Provincial Legislation as well as municipal bylaws; Must possess strong communication/report writing and computer skills. Public Works Concrete Crew Leadhand
 

 
PUBLIC WORKS CONCRETE CREW LEADHAND - FULL-TIME POSITION

Reporting directly to the Roads and Streets Foreman:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Primary function of this position is to provide maintenance operations for the City sidewalk maintenance program, also responsible for maintenance functions for curb and gutters, catch basins and other concrete infrastructure.
  • Individual will be responsible for performing sidewalk inspections, collecting and recording field data and identifying priority areas in accordance to sidewalk repair guidelines. Accurate record keeping is essential. 
  • Investigate complaints from the public, recommending and performing appropriate responses to problems.
  • Ability to plan and organize daily maintenance activities in conjunction with Roads and Streets Foreman.
  • Responsible for removal of existing concrete infrastructure, base preparation, form setting and placing/finishing concrete for all new installations.
  • Must be able to calculate concrete quantities for all work performed.
  • Provide on the job training for new and existing employees.
  • Operate front-end loader, dump trucks, skid steer loader and other equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and minor maintenance as required.
  • Adhere to all OH&S Safety Regulations, City of Yorkton policies and Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to withstand various weather conditions and extremes of temperature.
  • Maintain open line of communication with supervisors and co-workers. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalency.
  • Preference will be given to individuals possessing a Journeyman's Concrete Finishing Certificate or related technical skills and several years relevant experience construction. City will assist the successful candidate in obtaining a Journeyman's Concrete Finishers Certificate if interested. 
  • Current C.P.R. and First Aid Certificates 
  • Must possess and maintain valid Class 5 Driver's Licence. Class 3 with air endorsement preferred. 
  • Must be able to perform physical labour duties. 
  • Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance. 
  • Preference may be given to employees who reside in the corporate limits of the City of Yorkton.
Salary:
In accordance with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local #342.

Proposals are Invited for a Grant Writer Position

The City of Yorkton invites proposals for a Grant Writer to be proactive in researching and applying for new and existing funding opportunities for the City of Yorkton.

The Grant Writer will research, assess and write grant proposals for external funding sources, working in conjunction with the various departments of the City of Yorkton. You must have 2 - 5 years experience in grant research and writing and be familiar with Federal, Provincial, Public and Private agencies, services and programs. The Grant Writer must have a good understanding of Municipal Government including knowledge of the City of Yorkton operations. This position will be a key player in developing detailed plans of action for identifying external grant sources, maintaining detailed records of submissions, deadlines and follow-up and analysis. Candidates must possess excellent public relations, written and oral communication skills.

Contractors should note that each part shall be treated as a separate quotation. All quantities on the Schedule of Prices are approximate and the City reserves the right to adjust quantities at the time of placing order.
