Sale of Property

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 101 of The Cities Act, and in accordance with Bylaw No. 8/2003 hereby gives public notice of its intention to consider selling the remaining properties in the MI-1 Light Industrial Area for the best price offered which may be for less than market value:

To Sell:
The few properties remaining in the MI-1 Light Industrial area of the City.  Properties purchased are to be used for purposes as listed in the Permitted Uses and/or Discretionary Uses of Zoning Bylaw No. 14/2003.

This matter will be considered by City Council at the Council Meeting of Monday, April 28, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall at 37 Third Avenue North. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Office of the City Manager at 786-1703 or the Office of the City Clerk at City Hall or by calling 786-1717.

Assessment Roll

Public Notice is hereby given that pursuant to subsection 187(1) of The Cities Act, the assessment roll for the City of Yorkton for the year 2008 has been prepared and is open to inspection in the office of the assessor from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following days:  April 24 to May 23, 2008.

A bylaw pursuant to section 184(2) of The Cities Act has been passed and the assessment notices have been sent as required.

Any person who wishes to appeal against his or her assessment or classification to the Board of Revision is required to file his or her appeal with:  The Assessor, City of Yorkton, P.O. Box 400, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, S3N 2W3 by the 23rd day of May, 2008.

Public Notice
Spring Clean-up Week

The week of Monday, May 5 to Saturday, May 10, 2008 has been declared by City Council to be “Spring Clean-Up Week”.  Residents of the City of Yorkton are requested to clean their properties and improve the image and appeal of our community.  To encourage participation, the City will waive the landfill entrance fee for residential waste  (excluding tire disposal) for cars, half-ton trucks and utility trailers for this period.

Current Hours of Operation:

OCTOBER 1 TO APRIL 30
Monday to Friday    9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
             Saturday     9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

MAY 1 TO MAY 31
Monday to Friday    8:00 am to 7:00 pm
               Saturday   8:00 am to 6:00 pm

CLOSED SUNDAYS AND STATUTORY HOLIDAYS
Please enter not later than 15 minutes before closing to allow for material handling.

DETAILS OF TENDER:

The City of Yorkton will be accepting tenders  for resurfacing of the outdoor rink asphalt pad at the Wienmaster Park on Morrison.  The total area is approximately 6000 sq feet.  The tender will include the sweeping of the existing pad, application of tack oil and supply and place 1.5 inches of hot-mix asphalt.

The project is to be completed by June 13, 2008 .

  • Costs to include any floor preparation work that may be required.  Total area is approximately 5,000 sq. ft. 
  • City to remove the Elsro Planking, toilets and other fixtures prior to installation.

Bidders must attend site meeting prior to submissions and ensure dimensions are accurate and reflect the entire work project.

DETAILS OF PROPOSAL
Kinsmen Arena Conceptual Design Study

The scope of the work shall include:

  • Conceptual plans for improvements to the existing facility.
  • These improvements will include, but may not be limited to:
    • The addition of a new lobby including a second floor mezzanine.
    • The addition of dressing rooms, storage and other related rooms.
    • The upgrade of the existing dressing rooms, storage, meeting room, lobby and other existing amenities.
    • An addition of a second ice surface and related improvements.
  • Determination of capital costs associated to the improvements.
  • Determination of operating costs related to the improvements.
  • PST must be included in the bid price, if required.
  • GST must be reflected separately.

Conditions of Proposal:

  • Proposals shall remain open for acceptance by the City and irrevocable for sixty (60) calendar days following the date specified for proposal closing.
  • Proposals received after the date and time specified for closing will be marked late and be returned unopened.
  • The City reserves the right to accept any proposal submitted in whole or in part, or to reject any or all proposals and to waive any irregularities.
  • Lowest or any proposal not necessarily accepted.

The City of Yorkton will be accepting proposals for the removal and clean-up of the existing playground structure at the Knights of Columbus Park on Circlebrooke Drive.

The proposed work shall be completed by June 15, 2008 and will result in minimal damage to the turf and park area. 

The proposal shall include all costs, if any, associated with the removal of the equipment, where the equipment will be relocated to or disposed of and who will be performing the work.

TRANSPORTATION OF WASTES
No person or persons shall operate any vehicle transporting wastes or other debris of any kind along or over any highway, street, lane, vacant lot, park or public place in the City of Yorkton unless the load is completely enclosed with a securely fastened cover as to prohibit any part of the load on the said vehicle finding its way to the roadway or adjacent premises.

The Yorkton Solid Waste Management Committee in partnership with SARCAN will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Day whereby the Saskatchewan Government is funding a pilot program of Household Hazardous Waste Days for the collection and proper disposal of specific household products that may be hazardous to the environment.

What is considered hazardous waste?
Included Products:  The following consumer/household hazardous waste (HHW) products will be accepted at the HHWPP event day in the Municipality:

    • Adhesives - contact cement, caulking, sealer, carpet and linoleum adhesives, glue
    • Aerosols - hair spray, insect repellant, lubricant spray, furniture cleaner
    • Automotive - used engine oil, used engine oil filters, antifreeze, batteries, carburetor cleaners, oil fuel, windshield cleaner
    • Batteries - automotive, cellphone, dry-cell, NiCad, lithium, alkali, lead-acid
    • Cleaners - oven cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, glass cleaner, spot remover, disinfectants, car wax
    • Corrosives - drain cleaner, engine degreaser, ammonia, battery acid, sulfuric acid
    • Fuels - gasoline, diesel, kerosene, lamp oil, oil/gas mixture
    • Mercury - mercury, thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs)
