Drowning Prevention Week
Gallagher Centre Water Park

Prevention is the key to reducing the amount of deaths and injuries around the water.  Take part in the following events taking place at the Gallagher Centre Water Park to increase your water safety awareness:

  • Swim to Survive Challenge: Basic swimming ability is a fundamental requirement in any meaningful attempt to eliminate drowning in Canada.  Swim to Survive is a Lifesaving Society survival training program. The Society defines the minimum skills needed by all Canadians to survive an unexpected fall into deep water.  This program is designed for all ages, so take a few minutes and take the challenge!
  • Wednesday, July 16 is the Buddy Swim from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  With the purchase of one admission, your buddy gets in free.  Admission must be of equal or lesser value.
  • Help decorate the Water Park!  We need all kids to color our Drowning Prevention Week posters.  Available at the admission desk.
  • Bronze Cross Certification is July 14 to 18 each day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.  Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.
  • Sign up for the next B.O.A.T. (Boat Operator Accredited Training) course at the Water Park, or challenge the exam by booking a time at the admission desk.  Everyone operating a boat needs to have a Pleasure Craft Operator Card by 2009.
