Public Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Yorkton intends to consider passage of Bylaw No. 39/2008, known as the Borrowing Bylaw, a bylaw to provide for the borrowing of $10,000,000 for the purpose of financing the construction of the Queen Street Water Treatment Plant, at the Council Meeting of Monday, November 17, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 37 Third Avenue North.

Yorkton Recruits Economic Development / Marketing Coordinator

It comes as no surprise to all citizens and businesses of Yorkton that the City of Yorkton and its community is undergoing major growth resulting in many interesting and challenging initiatives related to both economic development and marketing strategies.  When the Province announced changes to the REDA program this summer, the City of Yorkton began recruiting for an Economic Development/Marketing Coordinator who is creative and forward-thinking in being able to visualize how decisions relating to the development of policy and program initiatives impact both the organization and the community it serves.  

Some of the responsibilities of the Economic Development/Marketing Coordinator will include:

  • Identifying, planning for and implementing strategic initiatives that will effectively position the City of Yorkton as a key and highly desired location for business and new development.
  • Provide current information to new prospective businesses seeking material and data about the City of Yorkton
  • Market research for the City of Yorkton
  • Manage the design and production of City’s promotional materials
  • Participate as a key figure in regional economic development
  • Maintain and cultivate close working relationships with senior provincial and federal elected and appointed officials, financial and educational institutions, community and business groups and organizations
  • Coordinate the preparation and administration of economic development plans, programs and strategies to retain our businesses and residents and to attract and maximize new business and residential opportunities to the community

At this time the City of Yorkton is pleased to announce that Faisal Anwar has accepted the position of Economic Development/Marketing Coordinator with an official start date of Wednesday, November 12, 2008. 

Faisal comes with a vast educational background including a Bachelor of Commerce, Master of Arts in Economics, Master of Business Administration and is currently completing his Thesis for his Master of Applied Environmental Studies in Local Economic Development.  Faisal also comes with a working background including responsibility for Market/Business Development & Expansion, Rural Economic and Social Development, Business Retention, Attraction and Trade/Investment Promotion.

Faisal is very excited to join the City of Yorkton team and is looking forward to become an active member of the community.

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

Auxiliary Fire Fighter

The City of Yorkton Fire Department is looking for highly motivated persons, male or female, over the age of 18 to become part of our Auxiliary Fire Fighting force.  Operating as a composite department, Auxiliary Fire Fighters provide support services to the Full-Time Department.  If you are interested in a new challenge and in expanding your life skills, these positions provide for a stimulating team building opportunity. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Under direct supervision, Auxiliary Fire Fighters assist in response, mitigation, and return to service of Fire Department apparatus and the facility.  Response to emergency incidents can include: fires; dangerous goods; rescue work; and other duties as assigned.  Personal and public safety is of paramount importance therefore successful candidates will be required to participate in regular and ongoing training and will receive protective clothing, a pager, and will be placed on an on-call rotation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health and must successfully complete a physical fitness test.  RCMP security clearance and a valid driver’s license is also required.  Preference will be given to those possessing current C.P.R., First Aid, and N.F.P.A. or related training / certification.

HOURS OF WORK:
These are paid on call positions with weekly training provided at the Fire Hall.  On-call hours include Monday through Friday 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
