Public Notice
Proposed Bylaw No. 35/2008

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 35/2008.  This Bylaw (1) changes the zoning on the property bounded by Darlington Ave. on the North, Seventh Ave. N. on the West, the northern boundary of the C-1 Zone along Smith St. E. and the rear lane between Seventh Ave. N. and Sixth Ave North, from C-3 to Mixed Density Residential R-5 Zoning District, (2) allows a mixed use commercial/residential above development on the most southerly two lots in this subdivision (Lots 1 and 2, Block 2, Plan orY01012), and (3) permits bow and bay windows as a permitted encroachment in any yard throughout the City.

The proposed bylaw zoning amendment may be inspected in the office of the Director of Planning and Engineering, City Hall by any person without payment of any fees between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., all holidays excepted and up until 12:00 noon Friday October 31, 2008.

Any person may make oral or written representation to City Council at its meeting to be held on Monday November 3, 2008 in the City Hall Council Chambers, Yorkton, Saskatchewan at 5:00 p.m. All submissions must be submitted in writing by 12:00 noon Thursday October 30th, 2008 to Bonnie Schenher, City Clerk.  Oral or written submissions will be considered when the Public Hearing, in respect to this application, is in session.

The Council of the City of Yorkton pursuant to Section 207 of The Planning and Development Act, 2007 hereby gives notice of its intention to pass Bylaw No. 36/2008, which is an amendment to City of Yorkton Zoning Bylaw No. 14/2003 to establish the Commercial-Industrial Transitional CMI-1 zoning district and change the zoning designation of industrial properties in the City Centre Commercial C-1 zone to CMI-1.

COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
FINANCE DEPARTMENT

The City of Yorkton is seeking a talented and self-motivated individual with a passion for computers and technology to join our Information Technology team as the Computer Support Technician. An ideal candidate would be creative, conscientious, and detail-oriented, with excellent spoken and written communication skills, and with excellent research skills. This dynamic candidate would also be competent in a wide range of disciplines including customer service, hardware, software, networking, databases, web site design, and multimedia creation/design/editing. This person would be able to maintain high levels of confidentiality while offering consistent high-quality service to staff and citizens in an ever-evolving environment.

The Computer Support Technician shall report to and complement the Computer/Network Systems Manager in the overall administration, planning, organizing, co-ordination, control and evaluation of the City of Yorkton’s computer operations, programs and network services and all related information services for the City of Yorkton.  Candidates should possess a minimum qualification of COMPTIA A+ Certification or equivalent with three years experience in the IT field.

Waste Reduction Week
October 19th to 25th

City Council has proclaimed the week of October 19th to the 25th as “Waste Reduction Week” in the City of Yorkton.  In doing so, we are joining other cities and communities across Canada in raising awareness and promoting waste reduction. The national theme, “Too Good To Waste”, emphasizes saving our earth and its resources and aims to inform and engage Canadians about wasteful practices and their environmental and social ramifications.

The Yorkton Solid Waste Management Committee consists of active members from the following organizations:

  1. Canadian Federation of University Women
  2. Chamber of Commerce
  3. City of Yorkton
  4. Ottenbreit Sanitation Services
  5. Prairie Harvest Employment Program
  6. Saskatchewan Abilities Council
  7. Yorkton Business Improvement District

The Yorkton Solid Waste Management Committee will be promoting this week by providing tours at the Sanitary Landfill and the Saskatchewan Abilities Recycling Centre.  Interested parties can book their tour of these facilities by contacting the City of Yorkton Environmental Services Department at 786-1774.

An informational brochure will be arriving with your next water bill to endorse and provide practical information on recycling initiatives in our community.

The City is undertaking a review of restricted accessibility in back lanes due to tree overgrowth.  Property owners should ensure that their trees are appropriately pruned and not obstructing public property.

As per the Urban Forestry Bylaw “Trees located on the premises of a taxpayer’s property, including back lane trees & shrubs, in both the residential or commercial zones of the City, are the responsibility of the homeowner.”
