City Council and the Gallagher Centre management and staff were saddened to hear of the recent passing of George Gallagher, whom the facility is named after.

“It comes with great sadness that the city of Yorkton learns of the passing of Mr. George Gallagher,” said Mayor Mitch Hippsley. “George was a true pioneer in the world of radio and was greatly respected not only in the city but throughout the entire country,” says Hippsley. “He was a leader and brilliant man that always had his great viewpoints on many matters, being never afraid to speak his mind while backing it up with details and facts on a radio spot he created.”

Hippsley explained Gallagher had a long term relationship with the community.

“We are so grateful to the Gallagher family having been tremendous supporters of our great city in many ways and “our gem”, The Gallagher Center itself,” he said. “It’s because of this giving and support of Mr. Gallagher our city has prospered and grown and he will never be forgotten.”

City Council and City of Yorkton management and staff extend their deepest condolences to the Gallagher family during this time.

Gallagher provided a sponsorship of $500,000 to our community facility in September 2005 for a ten year period, during which the Centre gave his name. In 2015, Gallagher maintained his naming rights sponsorship with another $500,000 over the next ten years.
