The City of Yorkton, in collaboration with the Yorkton Business Improvement District and the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, present to you the Halloween Decorating and Pumpkin Carving Contest.

Halloween decorating and lights contest

Get out your spider webs, goblins, and ghouls to decorate your house or business this Halloween! Residents and businesses are invited to decorate their homes and store fronts and then submit a photo using the form below.

Note: If you submit your home, it may result in an increased number of trick-or-treaters to your spooktacular house!

There are two ways to participate. 

  1. You can dress up your home or business in Halloween décor and submit an entry online to qualify for prizes. Entry will open October 12. The deadline is October 28, 11:59 p.m. 
  2. You can simply follow the Spooky Map, which will come available to the public once we have a minimum of 10 entries. Cast your vote online starting October 29, on our City of Yorkton Facebook page for your favourite display. Voting will close on October 31, 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced on November 2.

Pumpkin carving and decorating contest

Adults, teens and kids, let's put your artistic skills to the test! Enter a photo of your carved or decorated pumpkin in our contest for a chance to win some great prizes. Enter in one of the three categories:

  1. Adult pumpkin carving (ages 19 and up)
  2. Teen pumpkin carving (ages 13 to 18)
  3. Children pumpkin carving (ages 12 and under)

Entry will open October 12. The deadline is October 28, 11:59 p.m. Each category will have entries placed in a random draw for a chance to win a prize! All pumpkins will be showcased on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Winners will be announced on November 2.

Terms and conditions

 General
  1. Participants will follow any COVID-19 guideline or recommendations set up by the province of Saskatchewan while decorating their home.
  2. Only one photo per entry will be permitted.
  3. Any inappropriate photos will result in disqualification.
  4. Participants agree that their submitted photo may be used in this promotion and/or future events by the City of Yorkton, Yorkton Business Improvement District or the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce.
  5. Free to enter and participate.
  6. Entries will only be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021.
  7. Contest winners will be notified on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, via email. Prizes must be picked up at Yorkton City Hall.
 Residential decorating
  1. Only homes within the City of Yorkton limits are eligible.
  2. Only one entry per household will be permitted.
  3. Entry must be made by the property owner or include the property owner’s permission.
  4. Only exterior lights and/or decorations that are visible from the roadway will be considered.
  5. All valid entries' addresses will be placed on an inclusive map which will be shared with the public.
  6. Decorations should not cover/interfere with any fire safety equipment or sidewalks/walkways
  7. If able, decorations must be lit at night during the competition (until 9 p.m.) so they can be easily seen by residents.
  8. All city bylaws, including the noise bylaw, must be followed
  9. One of the contest categories will be by a public vote. All submitted photos will be placed on the City of Yorkton’s Facebook page to allow individuals to vote by liking their favourite photo.
  10. Public voting will open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29 and will close on Sunday, October 31 at 11:59 p.m.
 Business decorating
  1. Only businesses within the City of Yorkton limits are eligible.
  2. Only one entry per business will be permitted.
  3. Entry must be made by the business owner or manager.
  4. Must hold a valid City of Yorkton Business Licence.
  5. Businesses may enter a decorated store front or public display
  6. All valid entries' addresses and business names will be placed on an inclusive map that will be shared with the public.
 Pumpkin decorating/carving
  1. Only one entry per person will be permitted.
  2. Only one decorated or carved pumpkin will be permitted.
  3. Contest winners' names will be announced on the City of Yorkton's social media platforms; Instagram, Facebook and website.
  4. Must be 18 years old or older to enter, otherwise, guardian consent is required.
