Holiday Garbage and Recycling schedule for December 25, 2023 to January 2, 2024

Holiday Recycling

This holiday season the City of Yorkton is encouraging residents to practice proper waste disposal. Many items that end up in our landfill during the holiday season can actually be recycled, reducing the amount of unnecessary waste that goes into the landfill each year.

Holiday items that can be recycled
  •  Wrapping Paper: If you can rip it, you can recycle it. No need to remove tape and staples, but it helps if you do.
  • 100% cardboard gift boxes, gift cards and paper packaging. Remove the plastic, paper, and Styrofoam first before you recycle.
  • Clean milk and eggnog containers are accepted at SARCAN or in the curbside program.
  • Aluminum foil, tin cans and disposable cookie tins.
  • Plastic Containers (#1-7). This does not include black plastics, stretchy plastic film/bags, and Styrofoam.
  • Household glass should be taken to SARCAN.
  • Electronics. Some electronics can be dropped off at SARCAN or Staples Business Depot. Please call ahead to find out if your items can be recycled at those locations.
  • Remember, recyclables must be bagged in clear or transparent bag.

Trees collected are chipped and composted or used as mulch.

Reminders

  • Live (natural) trees only. Artificial trees should be sold, donated or disposed of at the Landfill.
  • Trees should be unwrapped and unbound.
  • Remove all decorations, ornaments and plastic bags before dropping off your tree. Even small bits of tinsel or plastic can impact the quality of the wood chips.
