Residential Snow Removal

In order to prevent snow removal costs from increasing significantly, the City of Yorkton’s snow removal standards have been changed.

The new course of action calls for 8 inches of hard-packed snow to accumulate on residential streets prior to snow removal operations proceeding in these locations. The previous policy was set at 4 inches of hard packed snow.

Streets classified as Arterials, Collectors and Residential with special needs, such as senior complexes, are still maintained following 4 inches of snow accumulation.

The City of Yorkton apologizes for any inconvenience experienced as a result of the changes to our Snow Removal Program. The level of service changed to minimize Public tax increases for 2007. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Notice Regarding Snow Clearing From
City Streets, Lanes and Private Driveways

The City wishes to advise residents of the following operational procedure:

  • While clearing snow from residential streets, equipment operators employ the use of grader snow-gates to prevent snow leaving the plow from entering driveways.
  • At times, especially during periods of heavy snowfall, some snow may overflow the grader gate.  A certain amount of snow may remain in the driveway following street clearing.
  • Graders will not return to clear any overflow snow unless the driveway was completely missed.
  • An angle plow is used to clear snow from lanes maintained by Public Works.  This plow is not equipped with a snow gate.  Property abutting a City lane will receive the snow from that portion of the lane.  The clearing of driveways off lanes shall be the resident’s responsibility.
  • During periods of heavy snowfall, we ask for the public’s assistance by utilizing their driveways whenever possible to help minimize the problem of clearing snow around vehicles parked on the street.

Thank you for your co-operation in this regard.

“No person shall park a vehicle on any public highway (street) for more than twenty four (24 hours).”

and Sec.21(1) reads:

“No person shall place or leave any cord or cable across or upon any public highway, sidewalk or boulevard.”

Your co-operation in ensuring that vehicles are parked on private property will help us keep our city streets clean and safe.
